Track accessories really needed?
This will be my 1st year heading to my local road course. Was digging through some bits and pieces and found the GM Camaro track deflector package.
Is this stuff really necessary? It looks like a pain in the ass as the instructions required that these bits be removed for street use. That being said, why did they go to all the engineering and documentation if this was not a valid requirement for track use? What's the consensus? |

My car came with them. They wouldn't have designed a solution for a non issue

They don't need to be removed off track, I installed mine and left them on. There have been issues with power steering overheat so they seem like a good upgrade.
The parts you remove may provide a little more noise insulation and that's it. |

I've never seen this kit before. Can someone post pics showing them on the car? They are for power steering cooling?

GM probably didn't perform exhaustive testing with the track deflector kit to determine the effects of increased water intrusion. That's my guess why they suggest to swap them back to stock for the street. But like SFV1LE I left mine on. Maybe I'm lazy but I can see the harm. Same for the hood vent. Take it off and put it on the shelf. At least for me here in TX.

If those are what I think they are, then they are air deflectors that will divert air to certain components (brakes or transmission) and help those components stay cooler.
I think the only reason why you would take them off for the streets is for the uncertainty of the roads we drive on daily and breaking them. |

My ZL1 didn't come with these...are these a separate option?

The kit the OP asked about is for power steering cooling and those components are flush to the underbody. The ZL1 brake cooling diverters are also flush to the control arm. The much bigger SS brake cooling diverters, which many ZL1 owners install, do hang down and mine regularly hit objects, but it's a flexible plastic panel and it simply deflects. Mine have some scratches on them but otherwise in perfect working condition. And if I do break one, the kit from GM is about $40.

If you have a SS 1LE, ZL1 or ZLE, you don't need the SS deflectors. The models mentioned already have deflectors installed. They also have larger brakes that have different cooling requirements.

So why are people with ZL1s installing these then?

This kit started coming with ZL1's and ZLE's sometime in 2019 model year.
From previous posts it doesn't seem like early production 2019 year cars came with the kit. Plus several ZLE's came with gloss rocker panels instead of matte. |

Left mine installed..
I also removed the air deflectors under the front splitter as well as the one at the hood. I dont do much driving in the rain so I im personally not too worried about it. Dont forget DOT 4 for your brakes..15 50 oil and 140lbs of torque for the lugs. Have fun! |
