HELP - FOB Not Recognized

Hi Folks:

2020 ZL-1 Convertible w 6spd. Car does not recognize Fob #1.

Yesterday, I went to start the car, after it sat for about 3 weeks. Fob was left away from the car, and I could not unlock it. I know the DIC previously showed that the battery was low in the Fob. Yes….i know I should have replaced the battery sooner!!!!

No problem, got spare Fob, started the car and went for a nice drive. Ordered new batteries from Amazon.

When I put the new battery in the Fob today, the car still would not recognize it. Would not lock/unlock. Fob #2 worked fine.

Here's where things are really weird....when I put Fob #1 in the 2nd cup holder, and push the start button, after about a 2 second delay the car starts, and I get a message in the DIC that says "You are driver 2 for memory features". When I hit to start bottom to turn the car off, it waits about 2 seconds and then turns off.

I then get another message in the DIC that says " No remote detected. Press clutch to restart"(see 2nd photo).

When I go back to Fob#2, it says that it is set for Driver 1 for memory features. I think these are backwards, as I have not used, or set up the 2nd Fob for more seats, mirrors, etc.

What is wrong with car/Fobs? Particularly Fob #1.

Did the battery finally die, and the car no longer recognizes Fob#1? If so, why does the car still start(albeit, after a 2 second delay)?

How do I reprogram Fob#1, so that the car will once again recognize it? Is this something i can do myself?

Cheers,

Sounds like it's picking up Fob 2 when you try to use #1. There is a section in the manual on how to program the Fob.

I know battery is *new* but make sure its not dead. Some of these sit around so long they can die long before you ever get to use them. Had that happen to me.

Had a pack of batteries I had purchased, put "new" one in and car was like nuh uh.. fob is dead. Removed "new" battery and tried another one and issue was fixed. So in the little stick pack of batteries, i had one that was a dud.

Hi Richard:

Thank you - yes, I saw that in the owner's manual. Looks like those instructions are for when you have no working fobs, amd I think it will then add the next one as fob 3 (which I was hoping to avoid).

I'd do the 30-minute procedure in the manual as Groundhog said to forget both and re-add them if you've tried multiple batteries in fob #1

If the Fob starts the car when you put it in the cup holder it is being recognized by the car and is programmed to the vehicle. As for the messages your "Fob #1" is actually Fob #2 to your car hence the Driver number 2, and why your "Fob #2" is also displaying Driver number 1 in the DIC. Any third key or more, say a 4th or 5th will display in the DIC as Driver #3.

As for the message about no remote, I would venture a guess that it is because the battery in the Fob is in need of replacement, and the antenna in the cup holder may not be energized all of the time. I've also noticed that the way fob is put in there can sometimes even cause a Fob with a good battery not to be detected occasionally.

It sounds like your Fob is most likely fine, just need to get a "new" battery with the right voltage, it only takes a battery losing a little voltage to be low or inoperative in the Key Fobs. I'd also check the Fob circuit board and contacts for any corrosion and clear if needed.

Reprograming key fobs is most likely not going to do anything as again both the fobs are recognized by the car and programmed to the car from the information you provided above.
