I had a tough time with this myself but in the end went with the 2LT RS V6...304 HP is plenty and under 30K! I also like the clean front end look. I was looking at rougly $7000 difference in the 2LT and SS2. I had planned all along to go for the V6 and most of the reviews I have read raved about about it. I love mine! Now I will say that I would not have minded having the V8 and I could have afforded it. I just simply did not need it and to save $7000 in getting the 304 HP was great. The look and performance for the most part are the same for what most of us will be doing with this car.....just getting from point A to B. If you plan on racing it....get the V8 as that is a entire different story. Both are great no matter what

I seriously doubt it. Especially for a young guy who's going to pay out the butt for insurance.

The mileage difference is going to be hardly noticeable...

Insurance, I bet the difference there is minimal as well, the quote I got for my V6 FJ was only $10 a month less than the quote I got for the Camaro...

If you can live without the extras from the 2LT, I'd say go with 1SS.

The V6 packs enough power to make you go. If you want even more power and speed get the V8. I got the SS because I wanted the V8. I might take my car to a track but not looking to really race anyone.

What is "hardly noticeable"? If there's a difference of 5 mpg, and gas is $3/gallon over the next 100,000 miles, that's about $3,000 more for a V8. (More if you put premium in the V8.)

Just as everyone was saying, it’s a personal choice. I'm 17, so the v8 with the rumble grumble sound is what I really wanted. But, the difference in price was a noticeable factor, as well as premium gas, tires, etc. BUT, I worked my butt of the last two semesters of school, the first couple of weeks of summer, and actually made enough money to get the 2ss/rs PAID IN FULL which I recently ordered. Now, being 17 and a guy, I know my insurance will be A LOT with bodily injury coverage at the level I want, as well as all that other jazz at high rates. Progressive charged me 400 monthly for the 2ss/rs. But, I know that that just means I have to work hard for a week out of the month to get it paid. It’s up to you on what you can afford. But RIGHT NOW, I drive a Pontiac grand prix GT, so it’s a v6. It has a nice get up and go, but I drove my managers car a while back, a Charger SRT8 hemi, and you know what? That get up and go was unbelievable. So it’s right then and there that a decided on the V8, and not the V6. Although cheaper gas, insurance, tires, oil changes, etc. would sure be nice, I was going to go all out and get it. And that’s exactly what I did. I ordered the 2SS/RS in IOM with IOM interior, ordered the loudmouth 3" exhaust BEFORE I EVEN GOT THE CAR, and ordered my own custom vinyl stripes. So 2 days before the start of my senior year in high school, I will have my big bada$$ Camaro with the V8, and I will show it off every time I pull into the parking lot at school. Again, it is YOUR personal opinion, and nobody can decide it for you. But if you might want that V8, go for it, set your goals high, and get it. Pick up that extra shift every week for the 12 weeks before it comes if you have to. Do what needs to be done, to get the car of your dreams. I will tell you right now, I will have ZERO regrets on the V8, even if the tires may cost more every now and again, I just won’t spin my tires to hell, I’ve already decided that. And every time I fill up, I just won’t gun it as much. Things can be done to help you get you to whatever your goal is. If it’s the V8, you’ll find a way. If it is the V6, you may have a way, or you’ll still find a way. The choice is still up to you, but whichever one you REALLY want, write down what you’ll have to do extra to get it, get it done, and cross it off, every week, until you’re set.

I'm a former owner of a 1999 Pontiac Firehawk T/A. I bought a 1LT/RS M6. I absolutely love it and would not change anything with my order. It's really an amazing car.
