An easy $25 sound reducing mod in trunk

Another owner agreed with me there is more noise when you drop the back seat and open up the trunk, more tire whine from the run flats. So here’s an easy $25 mod that will reduce the noise, Totally reversible, as the mat just lays on the floor and not attached in any way. Because you are not peeling off the paper backing, there is no smell of the butyl rubber. (But this mod requires you to buy a trunk mat of some sort.)

The product - look also for the 80 mil for a bit more money...

I will be reporting back after a long drive this week....

That is a fantastic and cheap fix. I've used GTmat and dynamat before. I liked GTmat because of it being half the price of dynamat.

What I haven't decided yet is if I want to put it under the soudo backseat as well as the trunk or not. I think it is a great idea to have a trunk mat.

What are your thoughts on just using it on the stock trunk liner? I know you do say you require the grab a trunk mat of some sorts. I do think it would be better to use it on the trunk mat you got as well and for me that is not an issue but to be really cost effective (100 for the trunk mat vs none)?

Great point, I use my trunk a lot, so I Matt was necessary. But im sure it can go under the back carpet, my way was just a bit easier and already had bought the mat. Interesting thing about the mat I've been told that my mat is illegal because it contains logos that are not approved by GM ...I assume it's the two logos instead of just one. They requested it back from the seller , but not for me… Apparently it just slipped out from Lloyd's. LOL

LOL! So you like to live dangerously huh? Noted!

I do plan on ordering the interior carpets. I rarely use my trunk, only for road trips as I have 2 other vehicles that I can use/haul crap/grocery shop with but I would still recommend getting some sound deadening stuff like the gtmat/fatmat. It never hurts to drone out the run-flats or just sheer road noise. I became a believer of that years ago. Driving through Oklahoma and Texas (shocking that I am adding TX next to OK...) I noticed that I would love to get some extra sound deadening as the roads were just damn loud.

AGREE!!! when building my 32 Ford I used it in every crack and crevis I could get it into. trunk, inside doors, firewall under carpet, etc. etc. then put it in back only of a C5 Corvette. Both vehicles like riding it a totally different car after installing it.

That is crazy! Then GM needs to get to work on making a cargo mat, which I am told is not coming...amazing!

GM has a trunk mat. May not be what you like, but they have one.

Thanks Glen e, I drive with my back seats down and it's much louder inside. I am definitely buying this.

The first thing I did 6 years ago on my 5th gen was insulate the complete unibody
from the front seats back with Dynamat & Raammat. So quiet inside now even
with my Solo exhaust. The best mod you can do to these Camaros imo.

Might need it for under the rear seat, i can hear the fuel sloshing in the tank sometimes.

That's what I am going to do...pull the seats and trunk coverings then apply mat to everything.

So what exactly does this mod do? Does it reduce things like the ticking noises or does it suppress the exhaust sound to make the cabin quieter? If so, does the cabin get noticeable much softer from just doing the trunk? Thanks
