I would seriously have discussions with a dealership that would deny warranty claims based on use of GM DEXOS II certified oil. I would look for another, better informed, dealership.

Just an update:
Went to my dealer yesterday and the service manager had me talk with the new GM rep for the area and when asked he supposedly got in touch with Chevy and said that ONLY 2019's are recommended to use the new 0w-40 ESP oil and all previous models to continue using the 5w-30 dexos. Has anyone gotten any word from Chevy stating otherwise? I thought we would get a memo or bulletin soon stating 2014's and up can now also use the new 0w-40 ESP Mobil 1? Thanks. |

Horse crap, I took my dealer the actual oil bulletin change & they ordered the 0/40 for my 17 ZL1 & thanked me due to all the other SS owners that would be affected & wanted to be ready. They had no idea but appreciated the 411.
Don't roll over, educate & insist. Quote:

What bulletin #? Can you post the full print out? Cause the only one I found was on talking about 2019's and newer. |

I looked through this thread, I did not see a service bulletin, I saw the Corvette Engine oil part number update. I am at the dealer now, I will see what they come up with.

No, the corvette forum link posted was given to my dealer and the GM rep. They said it ONLY applies to the 2019 and up corvette and camaro LT1 and LT4 engines and says NOTHING about 2014 to 2018 models and will only be approved if it specifically says so. That is what I am looking for. |

I think people are focusing on the wrong aspect of the change, forget weight, look at additive difference instead.
I thought ESP is new, but it's not, have they reformulated recently or would this still be a worry? https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forum...Number=1984898 I wonder if this swap is just a emission thing, and will only effect post warranty endurance, which means they have better numbers for the EPA but at the expense of log term engine wear, which has been ongoing for decades with newer oil requirements. GM isn't exactly a beacon of pro consumer decisions. I'll stick with the better additive pacakges IMO. CATS are cheaper and easier to replace than an Engine block.

Well cats are warrantied in the US for 8 years / 100k miles I believe regardless. The new ESP oil is suppose to be emissions friendly, however, doesnt mean it is putting "more" wear on an engine. This is not 1960s dino oil. THis is modern 2019 full synthetic oil and should provide PLENTY of protection well beyond 200k+ miles. |

Your dealer is just being a wiener...this came up in the ZL1 sub-forum & someone linked the vette site & where I pulled it. It's been a little while but I don't recall it saying anything about ONLY being for 2019 LT1's & LT4's??
I bought the GM / Mobile 1 0-40 oil cap & took the printout to my dealer & they pre-ordered it for my last free change. It clearly says both the 0-40 & 5-30 is GTG. The 0-40 is better but nothing wrong with the other. I would push the issue & see if they will bite. |

Edit:
Answered my own question, and suprised. It actually has MORE zinc and phosphorus No idea why it's labeled as a ESP series. The 0w-40 has a different formula than the old ESP. it has more than EP and AP!!! It must be to offset the low SAP content of the ESP line. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...9RKbAC3jHwQpxj This PDF from Mobil was updated, not sure if anything changed. The 0-40 FS looks more interesting thought.

For the last Year and a half, I’ve been reading thread after thread on what oil fill to use,
When Al O. stated, use Mobile 1 0w-40w ESP Dexos 2, that’s good enough for me. After reading all the people saying, their manuals say 5w-30, I thought, I’d check my manual. This is what I found. My ZL1 was built on 2-20-2018, so I would assume every car after that should have the same manual. My factory oil cap says 0w-40 Mobil 1 Here’s a copy of the oil page in my manual’s supplement. Unless there’s conflicting data after 2-20-2018, I don’t see the confusion. And not sure how a dealership could ignore the manual that came with the car.
