Wanted: Stock exhaust take-off for porting

Hi All,

Anyone have a 6th Gen SS/V8 stock exhaust header collector, and pipe just after collector they want to donate to a porting project? If so, please PM me!

And, if anyone has done this, please let me know your results.

Thanks!!

I wish I was kidding, but keeping the warranty is critical to me at this point (lets be honest - critical to my wife... so critical to me). So, playing with every little edge that I can is what I need to do since I can't tune, and therefore can't do anything that'll make significant gains.

I've done everything possible to the suspension within the warranty limits (dealer installed GMPP lowering kit and 1LE sway bar kit, and will be getting 1LE tires), and added the GM CAI with the GM tune. I'll be doing some of the other bits that can tweak a little more out of the engine without tune and still be replaced back to stock for warranty service (Pray ported IM and TB). Porting the exhaust is the last little bit I can think of. In fact, a ported exhaust may be one of the things I could even keep on during a warranty service since it is outrageously unlikely to be checked.

Plus, it'll be fun to tinker with something on the car until the warranty runs out and I can really start to play with it. But since the car currently has 13 miles, that day is a loooonnnggg way off and I am dying to tinker with it.

So, again, no, I'm not kidding

I'm right there with you on this - considering the same thing for the same reasons.

I'll bet Californian owners including myself are interested in this idea. I'd like to know if its worth the effort. Ported OEM is 50 state legal too...

Remember these dealers can't void your entire warranty over headers. Don't let them scare you away from having some fun.

While that may be true, headers without a tune can be a performance hindrance, and a tune will definitely void the warranty we care about.

Continued Search

Found the exhaust manifolds (THANKS Jhunsberger!!), but still looking for the collector pipes for anyone who is getting rid of theirs!

Thanks for the help on this.

On a related note - anyone know of a good dyno shop near Boston MA? I'd love to be able to track the gains (or losses) of the work I am planning to share with the community. I am not good enough on the track to have that be a reliable measure, but I'll be sure to share the butt-dyno results as well.

The stock collector pipes is where the cats are, you might be better off buying a cat delete pipe set for less.

I would love to do the cat deletes, but I am not going to do a tune. I'll def get CEL and likely lose performance overall without the tune.

That said, I am guessing I'm going to be OK not doing a tune with the porting, but I plan on finding out the cheap (albeit time consuming) way.

Thanks for the pics - helpful.

Anyone know if green cats would work without any programming, and install without any cutting?

Green cats supposedly do not throw a code but still might cause you to run lean without a tune. Plus you would have to cut your exhaust to mount them.

Here is a couple of pics of inside the exhaust at the collector looking into the cat.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the pics - yeah, that is a nasty restriction there. But curious if it is purposeful to disturb airflow prior to the sensor. Curious if porting out all that metal would mess with the sensor readings and result in CEL... Guess I'll find out!

And yup, this is the last part i need - if anyone is getting rid of theirs, please PM me.
