Manual 1-4 shifting

Anybody else with the manual trans as sick and tired of the second gear lock out when it tries prompting a 1-4 shift as I am? Other than the thigh bolsters on the seats being really tight which isn’t horrible, just could be a tad wider but the second gear lock out is actually irritating to me. Is there any simple solution to disabling it?
Fuel economy isn’t anywhere near, let alone on my list of priorities.

Just take your revs a little higher in first and it will not happen. I have only seen it pop up 2 maybe 3 times and only when I have been coasting very slowly in first.

You can buy a plug in module that disables it, but the easiest solution is just to step on the gas pedal.

Shift from first to second above 19 mph and you'll never experience the second gear lock out.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Throttle input is of course the simplest solution not always possible depending on traffic conditions. I did see recently a few tuners that can disable it as stated above. Will definitely be doing that, the permanent solution.

Just shift at a slightly higher rpm, or
Double clutch, defeats it, or
Buy the skip,shift eliminator

It’s a ridiculous feature btw

As you mentioned - it can be turned off permanently in the tune or you can install the eliminator cable. I did the tune out on my fifth gen and that was great. For my sixth gen I just shift above 19 mph or if I forget and hit the lockout i just shift to third. It will let you do that and third doesn't lug the engine like fourth.

When GM started the 1 to 4 shift on 6spds way back when.......Something I tried and worked back in 1996 with my 6spd Trans-Am was when I wasn't paying attention driving around town so when I felt a 2nd gear lock out, instead of going to 4th I tried going straight to 3rd instead, it let me do it and it didn't bog the car down as bad as going into 4th. It's something I've been doing ever since.

I was not aware of this! I will be trying it this evening and hope it works. I've always just shifted above 19 mph to avoid the aggravation.

You had a ZL1 and went to the SS? Just curious as to why? Was there something about the ZL1 you did not like? I trade a lot/often too so I can understand!

I went back after being without a Camaro for 7 months, it happed to be a SS; a v6 RS would've been fine too....ZL1 was awesome, but I can have my Silverado 4x4 and Camaro for what the ZL1 cost.

FWIW, using a tune to disable it will void your warranty.
Installing the Skip Shift adapter cable is easy, quick, and only costs around $15-20 or so.

Skip Shift is designed to only engage under certain conditions, a combination of speed and throttle position. Shifting at a higher rpm will prevent it from engaging.

Even if on rare occasions it kicks in on my ZL1, I discovered that all you have to do is shift to neutral for a second, pause, then slip it into second. Piece of cake.

Pick a solution for you.
