Hood Insert dimples

It's been a while since I looked at a ZL1 up close, but the 2017 I looked at had dimples in the hood where the bolts hold the hood insert in place. It was a black painted insert, so the dimples might have been more apparent.

Has anyone noticed this on the newer ones? I'm hoping they resolved this on the newer models.

The insert has 2 different length bolts that mount it. If a longer one was used where a short one needed to go it will dimple the insert. Once stretched it will not go back even if the bolt is removed. Could be if that insert was ever removed and reinstalled they never paid attention to the different length bolts.

I've noticed mine is like that. I don't remember it having them when it was new. Maybe it did and I just hadn't looked at the right/wrong angle.

I had some dimples in my insert, didn't bother me at first. However over time/heatcycles they got much worse. Dealer replaced it no problem. You have a warranty,,,

So your new one is simple free? I may have to do that at some point as well.

It was new on the dealer's lot. Had a bit too many test miles on it for me to consider. I haven't seen one up close since then. Pretty scarce around here.

Test miles? They did not do anything to it that you were not going to do (:

Hmm...interesting and good to know.

I noticed some finish flaws appear towards the rear of my insert week before last and thought it was an issue with the carbon fiber creasing/bending for some reason. Not sure if it's my imagination, but it seems to be getting worse/more obvious since they appeared two weeks ago. Guess I'll be giving the dealer a call.

I'll try to get some pictures and post just to confirm we're talking about the same thing.

I have the same problem with a 2017 built on 5/17, just seems to be getting worse. Garage queen driven on weekends for fun with about 2700 miles or so. Showed my dealer and he is not going to do anything at all, so I plan on bringing to GM's customer service attention. It's noticeable and when I compared to some new ones on the lot, they don't have it. I checked the bolts and they were all about the same tightness, not much at all actually.
It's hard to convey thru photos tho.
Read that several here have had theirs replaced, so GM knows that they have an issue. Seems to be prevalent in the black painted ones VS the exposed carbon...

I've noticed this on my Carbon Fiber OEM one also. I thought it was a defect in the carbon fiber. I think it is just on one side. When its washed and super clean, you can see it easily.
