1LE 3.91 Install Question

How hard is it to instal the 3.91 1LE Gears into a 2011 camaro LS3 and if it is possible does someone have a write up on how to do it? Also is this something someone can DIY or is it something that needs to be done in a shop?

Yes the 3.91 gears can be installed in any SS. However, it is not a DIY job. Installing gears is an IRS rear end is a pretty complicated 6+ hour job even for a professional.

okay i thought it was a simple swap of gears but i guess not. Is there anyway to verify what kind of gears you have in the rear end. I bought my car used and it had alot of modifications already and not sure if thats one of the things he modified. im still finding modification and its been 2 years since i bought the car lol

There are several videos on YouTube that show you how to determine gear ratio. Find one that suits your needs.

I believe there is a way by disconnecting your driveshaft spinning your wheel 1 revolution and counting the revolutions on your rear end where drive shaft connects. Not 100% sure exactly how this works (I've never done it just read about it) but I'm sure someone else may know and comment

You should be able to figure it out based on what gear your in, your speed, and your RPM.

You spin the drive shaft and count how many revolutions it takes to turn the wheels one revolution. The number of times you turn the driveshaft is your gear ratio, e.g. almost 4 revolutions would be a 3.91, 3.5 revolutions a 3.45.
