Hybrid Performance Vehicles

Since we know that there will be a Hybrid Mustang as well as a hybrid (maybe even plug-in hybrid) 911, and there is already a plug-in hybrid Panamera, I thought I'd start a thread to keep track of hybrid and EV performance vehicles coming to market in the relatively near future. So, I'll kick things off with this one....expected late 2019 - early 2020. Who knows...maybe we'll see a Camaro or Corvette in this thread. Could happen.

http://www.thedrive.com/news/26889/f...sepower-report

from the article in The Drive....

Performance potential from the combustion engine alone is said to total 610 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, or 105 more horsepower than the Alfa—but no additional torque. Augmenting this V-6 with an electric motor, as Ferrari will reportedly do, is said to boost the engine to 723 horsepower, and nearly 800 pound-feet of torque, though the electric motor's primary role will allegedly be to fill in torque gaps left open before the turbochargers spool.

Alleged uses of this engine are said to include an upcoming entry-level Ferrari sports car, rumored to revive the "Dino" nameplate, or its upcoming "Purosangue" crossover. Current Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri formally denied in 2018 any possibility of this V-6 appearing in a model named "Dino," though this does not count the V-6 out from use in this model, which reportedly could be called the 486 instead.

Guess I should just go ahead and add this one, too. Ford has trademarked Mach E. I guess after they pi$$ed everyone off with the idea of calling an electric CUV Mach 1, Mach E is just a little less offensive.

Anyone see the NIO EP9 on the Grand Tour? Insanely fast, but watching it go around the track almost silent just didn't do it for me. The sound is part of the experience. I'm sure my fellow V8 lovers agree even though we'll get aged out.

I'll be honest with you. While hybrid and alternative fuels are good overall for the economy and environment, in general my enthusiasm will wane considerably if or when v8 technology goes away or takes a back seat to smaller engines and alternative fuels. I commend the advancement of technology, but at the same time it will hurt to see v8 perfection, as we know it right now, meet its demise.

I wouldn't be surprised (if the hydrogen economy takes hold, and that is a massive 'if') to see someone still making hydrogen powered V8s explicitly for enthusiasts. It wouldn't be as efficient or as light or probably even as powerful as a gas powered engine. But there will still be demand for it as a niche product. Like manual transmissions.
