For the same reason I've bought every Camaro I've owned. Because I dig them.

My first car was a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sport 350 V8. Through the years, I have had a number of interesting cars. My first Camaro had the LS3 motor with the NPP exhaust. This was the best sounding motor I have every owned. At a car show some years back, A participant said "now that's the way a motor should sound" as I idled by him. I have enjoyed the Camaros for many different reasons, all which have been talked about on this thread. Perhaps the best reason is when I show my Camaro, (which is weekly during the winter months in Florida), I get so many compliments on how nice the car looks. Taking home a few trophies is fun too. Here is a list of my more memorable cars over the years:

I bought mine because in the back of my mind I was going to drag race it almost full time and I have. Getting ready to do at least 12 events this season for Magnuson Superchargers.

I grew up being not really interested in cars. It was a small, truck centric town, and my immediate family used cars purely as a form of transportation. But my extended family… lots of racers. Everything from stock car, to NASCAR, to Indy. One of them raced in Players GM, with the IROC Z, and he was always my hero growing up. I watched as many of his races as I could. He made it as far as Indy, briefly, but the IROC was always my favourite.
Fast forward to 2000, when I moved to “the big city”. Suddenly instead of being surrounded by F150s and S10s, there were actually cool cars! Hondas, and Mazdas, and Subarus…. it was a total eye opener. I was driving a hand-me-down Topaz, which is to this day one of the crappiest cars I’ve driven. Somehow I got set on owing a Miata. Where I grew up, that was what the doctors and lawyers and such drove. In November 2000, I bought a 1990 Miata. I owned it for 18 years. I finally sold it yesterday. The day I moved to the city and saw what cars could be was the day I became a “car guy”. The Miata showed me how much fun going around corners could be. Through the years after that, I owned a number of different vehicles, for various lengths of time: 81 Chevy G20 van, 2006 Impreza, 1987 Monte Carlo SS, 1988 Mazda 323 Wagon, 2014 WRX. When I had the Monte, I started thinking about swapping it for a Camaro of the same era. I wanted an IROC Z like my uncle used to race. I saw the 2010-2015 Camaros, but they really didn’t do it for me. I never did quite get there before I sold the 322 and Monte to buy the WRX. The WRX has been a dream, by the way! A few years ago, the desire for an IROC came back, and I started looking. By this point, the 2016’s were around, and when I saw those, they caught my attention. The SS particularly. I never once considered anything other engines. I did some research and realized they’re not just a muscle car any more, but proper sports cars. Having experienced cornering in the Miata (and WRX for that matter) that REALLY got my attention. But I didn’t want to drop the money for a new car on something so totally different than I’ve had before without some serious test driving, more than the dealers would let me do. I settled on buying a used 2016 2SS. I didn’t really want leather, but the red leather looked cool, and there weren’t exactly tons of 2016+ SS’s on the used market, so I went for it. And holy hell do I love it. Enough that after a year with the 2016, I decided I wanted a brand spanking new Camaro. I’ve ordered a 2019 that’s virtually identical to my 2016 in every way I could make it, including the red leather. Edit: Oh, and I forgot to add. When I got the 2016 (in early 2018), I was thinking (and still do think) that V8's like this won't be around for long. I've always wanted a "proper" V8 muscle car... if I ever want one, I better get one before it's too late. Some recent news seems to indicate I might not be wrong.

Why? Simple, because I couldn't afford a Corvette Z06 at the time and didn't want a base corvette which i honestly regret for the only fact that i honestly thought i was going to leave the camaro stock... If i knew i was going to mod it, I would've just got a base corvette with many upgrades.... Now im in the 1LE and do not want to take a hit since i've spent so much $$ on it and to trade it for basically the same car (a base corvette) (still can get a Z06) makes no sense for me. I love the camaro its just every time I see a corvette i keep drewling.... no other car i'd prefer (right now) over the camaro than the corvette....

Had a bout with "C", so seeing the '17 at the dealer's going for dirt, and wanting to drive a nice car, was taken off the bucket list.
Wife gave me some not too pleasant looks when I swapped it for an SS, (didn't ask permission, figured it was easier to apologize!) but after going for a ride, she now almost always asks- "Are we taking your car?" This may not work for everyone, just saying it did for me. |

Growing up my Brothers all got Mustang GT Convertibles in high school. When I hit high school, I was told NO GT and NO Convertible. So I ended up with a V6 Mustang Coupe. (in the same lovely yellow I got my Camaro). Then I got another Mustang V6 Coupe when the other started having issues. Got married, then when Kids came, so, I got a Prius. I'd been driving a Prius for the past 11 years and it was TIME!! Still have two young kids, 10 & 6. But my husband wanted my Prius for his commute. I told him, I was getting a Flashy V8 Convertible. I was looking at Mustang's, but they were crazy expensive, when I saw this beautiful Lady! I was hooked after my test drive. Took me another 2 weeks to talk myself into it, it's not practical with two kids. But, boy, do they love it and so do I!

I have had a number of sports cars. 1968 Firebird, 1972 GTO (455), 1974 Camaro Z28, 2011 Camaro SS and now a 2017 Camaro SS. I have always been a GM guy and always loved sports cars. As you can see for a number of years i did not have any as the family grew larger and station wagons were needed. I have always loved the Camaro as the ultimate muscle car and when i bought the 2011 i said i was never getting rid of it. Well low and behold when the gen 6 came out i was sold on the new look and finnish. Twice the car than my 2011.I will however drive it for maybe 5 years and then sell it and that will be the end. My boys are not into cars but i will enjoy this one for a while yet.

My 3 kids also have zero complaints about crawling in and out of the back seat, and the oldest just told me she couldn't wait for the rumble and the seat hugging to resume come Spring.

Simple, I missed driving a V-8 sports car since I got rid of my '01 Vette, but I also have a budget that I needed to stay within. So in looking at my options, I could go with a used C6 Z06 (well used), a used base C7 or a new Camaro. My local dealer had a some decent deals on some new 1LE SS Camaros. I went over and took a look and I was sold. I don't regret it for a second. Given I usually upgrade brakes, put a short throw shifter in and exhaust, the 1LE checked all those and more. Every time I drive this car, it puts the biggest grin on my face... What could be better than that...

Got my LS 1LE for autocross, track days and the joy of driving a manual transmission. I opted for the V6 because it is much cheaper to buy, own and operate. I enjoyed the test drive and thought it felt more tossable than the SS.
Also, it is fun to be the underdog against V8 musclecars and such. |

2008 Mustang, Dealer messed up, on a/c, paid & traded it in for 2013 Camaro Vert.
Then Chevy couldn't figure out top problems, 400 later, traded in for 2018 Camaro V6 RS |

Had a 2016 Mustang V6, wanted a V8. Didn't the Mustang refresh, all the GTs I test drove had the BBQ tick. If I had it all to do over again I'd 100% just get the GT...

Growing up in the classic muscle car era and somehow I had some weird genetic anomaly. While my friends had the Chevelles, Mustangs, GTOs and Chargers, I was fascinated by the MGBs, TR-4s and TR-6s. Goodness when Sean Connery drove off in one of those Aston Martins, I thought it was the most beautiful car in the world (well... it may have been).
Anyway, I had Triumphs (even a TR-8 ragtop), Saabs (Sonnet III), a Lotus Europa (purist sports car ever made - IMHO) and an Audi 5000 for my first 4 door. Work, career and family took precedent. One afternoon, I was chatting with a friend who owned a Pontiac / Buick / GMC store in Houma. Someone cranked one of the new cars and the bark, then rumble of the LT1 V8 stated very clearly that I was being called. 3 - 4th Gen F-bodies followed. 1-LT1 and 2 LS1, that last one being a Firehawk. The LS1 is still one of my favorite engines. Strong, smooth and reliable. Then GM left me..... I drifted back to the BMW, Jaguar and Audi mold (Jags took the place of the Astons, I could never afford). Then came the fabled "Head to Head" episode between the M4 and '16 Camaro SS. I read and watched everything I could on the new 6th Gen. Car title and cash in hand (literally), I went driving and then looking for MY SS. My better half found it sitting at the back of Ray's Chevrolet in Abbeville. White, 2SS, no sunroof, 6M, MRC, NPP, NAV and upgraded sound system. 30 minutes of haggling and I drove off with an appointment to bring her back for the CFD (clean for delivery and full tank of gas). However, after about 12 months of ownership, I developed a serious itch. It seemed that the cure for this itch was an '18 ZL1 10A. This is my Aston. The old sayings that you can never have too much horsepower and that too much horsepower is just right describe my feelings every time I push the "Start" button.
