Changing brake fluids but keeping used brake pads

This will be my first time ever changing brake fluids. I'm planning to replace OEM DOT3 with track spec DOT4. However, I have about 50-60% of my brake pads left.

What considerations I should take, given that if I top breake fluid now, once I'm done with these pads and replace with new ones, I'll have too much brake fluid in the system?

Sorry for such a NOOB question...

Thanks for the confirmation Drags1988.

What do you suggest as a solution for when it comes time to replace brake pads?

Use a syringe or turkey baster made from a material that will handle brake fluid to draw down the master cylinder reservoir prior to replacing the pads. Refill with fresh brake fluid to the correct level when you’re finished.

To add onto this question which may sound stupid... are all DOT-4 Fluid is the same? I was in autozone and I noticed they had DOT-4 Prestone fluid and another brand. Have anyone used it either or before? I was thinking about getting MOTUL 660 from amazon but I was curious if anyone used it far as comparison wise since I have track day coming up and its readily available.

For track day you want a brake fluid with dry boiling point at or above 600°F.

I started a topic recently asking a similar question, we got great info from the good folks here!

Mind if I ask what event are you planning to attend? I'm planning to attend an HPDE at NCCAR in NC, 7/27 & 28.

You can mark the brake fluid reservoir level with a sticker before starting and flush so that you end up at the same level after the fluid flush so you won't have to use a turkey baster to prevent fluid from overflowing the next time you put in new brake pads.

Ohh, great idea, but too late! I successfully replaced brake fluid yesterday, and topped off.
