Sunroof and top speed

The weather was finally nice enough over the weekend to get the car out and I made use of the sunroof. Its amazing how quickly this car gets to 100mph!

Because of the design of the new sunroof, it made me wonder if there was a stated speed limit for it to be open? I checked the user manual and didn’t find anything related to a top speed with the sunroof open, so I suspect its probably ok to keep it open as long as I can stand the wind noise. Anyone ever have a speed related problem with a sunroof that didn’t retract inside the roof?

I would say at higher speeds you will start getting some drag with it opened. I don't think there will be any issues with it being open though.

At the Texas mile Snappy went over 200 mph with a side window open and the buffeting air inside the cabin cracked his windshield. I would close all windows if you plan on going over 150 mph.

Wow...was there already a ding in the windshield or something? It seems like that condition would take more force to create a crack...ofcourse, I haven't spent time driving a car at that kind of speed to know.

If it's anything like the 5th gen, the sunroof is pretty durable. I've even opened and closed mine at speed. Probably not the best idea, but there haven't been any issues. Other than the foam insulating blocks gradually peeling away, but those should be easy to repair.

I've done 130 or so and the above is good advise, Keep the car air tight at high speeds.

If it happens at "10 mph" backward or forward and we are talking about sunroof's , i think that at 80 mph or more there is a bigger probability of "something" happening.

Close the sunroof if you're going over 100-120. I don't think stability/durability of the sunroof at high speed is the issue. I'd imagine though it will deflect a lot of air away from the spoiler when open at those speeds resulting in a loss of rear downforce. Could make the car unstable at high speeds.
