Exactly and I agree 100%, they may be out there, and we just don't know about them yet. I do agree the Elite is one of the best cans hands down. You can't go wrong with it.

The only comparison is to watch the install video with the amount of accumulation in the S/C after ~2K miles. This 'after' video was shot after another ~2K miles.

There was a LOT less.
Thanks for clarifying. You show that it does indeed help (a lot). I have always been a believer in these things. While we can never get 100%, it is certainly pretty clean in your video.

Glad to help. Just to be clear, I have NO affiliation with Elite Engineering whatsoever.

I did a lot of research before I chose to purchase the Elite can and with what I know, it seemed to me that the E2-X was the 'most similar' to the OEM setup.

The install instructions from EE were not very descriptive or clear. I watched a video of someone installing this can on a Z06 and decided to shoot my own video to help others out. After I shot the video I sent it to EE and they did give me a little somethin/somethin for my efforts which is why I felt like the right thing to do was shoot the after video.

Just wanted to be transparent.

kwav8r - your videos were helpful, thanks again

MM owners (there are plenty of you out there) - please post a video of the inside of your supercharger lid and volume of blowby in your can after 2k miles. Would be nice to see a straight up comparison.

I'd also like to know if the MM has a restrictor, or is it full flow through the can with 3/8"+ inch line

The MM has the restrictor on the side of the can so it's not full flow through the can.

The new Civic Type R has an ingenious baffle system in the head that catches most of the blowby and drops it back into the motor, but doesn't completely prevent fuel dilution of the oil
You are right about the Civic Type R, it has a really good system, but just FYI, a lot of manufactures are doing this. Our own LT4 has baffles in the valve covers, and a baffle under the blower. The Hellcat has cool looking baffles in its rockers covers, and from the outside you can see the cool shape. All manufacturers are trying to prevent oil injection, some are more successful than others. Honda did a good job with the Type R.

Good catch on the Type R

Guys, What’s the difference between the clean and dirty side and do all ICE’s have this distinction?

Thanks,
Chris

HI Chris,

I know that video did not answer your question so I will try.

All ICE engines have a clean and dirty side that I know of.

Very simply, the clean side is where CLEAN outside air actually enters the engine and the DIRTY side is where that air exits the engine, and gets rerouted to the intake manifold to get sucked back in and burnt up in the combustion process.

So clean air in to pick up all contaminants (becomes dirty air in the process) and gets sucked out (dirty side)

That is why 95% of the time you don't need a clean side separator, its clean air entering so there is no oil to catch, its just clean air. In the odd case where there is no vacuum at wide open throttle, and there is a reversal of air flow, that dirty air now goes to the clean side.

Ok I thought he was referring to the dirty/clean side of the can, I misread his post but the question is almost rhetorical/patently obvious isn't it? All engines - especially forced induction - have some blowby past the rings (or seals in the case of a rotary).

The LT4 already has a clean side separator so another one on the clean side of the catch can is not required (Elite confirmed this)

His question was not obvious to everyone, I guess it really depends on ones knowledge of the ICE and how the emission system operates. In the 1960's the road draft tube was the dirty side and the PCV was an open system. Today it's closed for better air quality.

You are right all engines have blowby, its inherent in the design so it can't be avoided, and we want as little as possible.

Good call on the LT4 in the Camaro already having a clean side separator. More owners should know this.

Interesting we can't get any MM owners to post their catch can performance
