Windshield replaced...now mirror doesn't work

Had the windshield replaced. Now the frameless rearview does not come on. No lights.. Nothing.. Auto dim of course does not work either. Pulled and checked the OnStar fuse and pulled the usual F1 trunk fuse to reset the system. Still nothing

Thoughts?

You need to get the windsheild installer to give it a look. They probably disconnected the mirror wires and didn't plug them back in correctly.

Honestly at this point I'm hesitant to have them do anything.

I've checked the connection. I've pulled fuses. I've checked everything. I've even checked voltage at the plug. I get 3.8v constant. No idea if it should be that or 12v though.

Looks like pin 10 on the connector(red) should be 12.5v but I only get 3.8

No idea wtf

I agree with taking back to the installer. If it's a national brand installer they have to fix it. They may have pinched a wire somewhere when installing it.

I do this for a living, no way it's pinched, the wires sit behind the headliner, there's plenty of room. I never unplug the mirror unless I have to, just usually let it dangle. That voltage sounds low. Not sure how the installer could have damaged it. Wires can get cut, I've even had where the wires were in the glue and sliced the wires while cutting out the windshield.
Call the company, if you used a reputable company they'll get it set.
Shit happens.

Obvious thing I can imagine is at least slightly cut wires. Maybe something that’s not that noticeable unless you were to open the wrap around the wires. Otherwise could be the plug itself, they could have left it dangling and pressure applied to it caused one of the pin connections at the wire. Did you check voltage at both sides of the connector and also make sure you have a good reading? Mirror side & wire harness side. Take readings on the pins and if possible on the wires themselves. I imagine the wires are very small so not sure how difficult getting a good reading is on them. Your choice is take it back to them to fix it or replace parts yourself at your own cost.

Dangling the mirror wouldn't cause a pin to get pulled, the plugs are locked in with a tab and the mirror is pretty light. I have literally let 10s of thousands of mirrors hang and that hasn't happened once.

But at the same time, if a wire was cut, it'd still read the right voltage...I think, trying to remember my high school electrical classes.

Pretty weird deal though.

It’s a weird deal. I was wondering if he was getting a false reading of 3.8 from not have a good enough contact on the wires, and to make double sure he doesn’t have proper voltage first. One way or another if the plug connection is good, and his mirror isn’t working at all, if the fuses are good, ultimately he’s losing voltage somewhere in the wires. It’s a matter of pinpointing where you’re going from 12V down to 3.8V. Also have to make sure the ground is good and that’s not what is compromised. Cover all of your bases. There is only so many things they could have messed up. Somehow the mirror which on my old 2010 I did get an auto-dimming mirror that did not work at all from a salvage yard despite not having any physical damage to it. Otherwise has to be the wiring from the headliner to the mirror, or a blown fuse that he may not have checked.

I agree. I'm wondering if that's the problem. 3.8 volts is the correct reading, it may be a lot voltage circuit, and a wire might be cut in the pig tail and he's losing the ground.
