When it states "AC Delco dexos 1", it is not so much referring to a type of oil made by AC Delco but, rather, a quality specification. Dexos 1 has become an industry quality standard that many oil manufacturers offer... Mobile1, Pennzoil, etc. So long as it states "Dexos1" somewhere on the manufacturer's label it is acceptable for use with your engine.
thanks for all the info

That's because there are variances in the engines. Corvette's wet sump oil pan is about 1/2 as deep as the 2016 Camaro oil pan. Plus, there are different oil coolers and radiators in both cars. Camaro is 2 quarts over the 6.2 in the trucks (8 quart).

It was the same for Gen 5 and C6. LS3 Camaros are 8 quart capacity, while LS3 wet vettes are 6 quarts.

Packaging, cooling performance, there could be multiple reasons.

Just to be clear, Dexos is NOT an oil. It is a specification for oil. I think the link was posted earlier to what Dexos is.

When GM launched this standard, some Mobil 1 synthetics DID NOT meet the specification. I believe they all do now. But don't just assume that any full synthetic meets the Dexos standard. I believe at the time, GM was simply trying to standardize an oil good enough for the demands of a (at the time) 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.

Other industry standards from the American Petroleum Institute (API) did not satisfy GM in that regard.

Also for anyone that cares, the study of lubrication is Tribology.

The Germans have their own oil specifications too if I remember . You would think someone would just make world standard meeting everyone's criteria.

They never will, because it's a money maker first, and "getting the right oil" second. Face it, any -5w-30 sold at any auto parts store chain will work in these cars for daily driving.....if changed regularly.

Have you ever read a post anywhere where the brand/dexos caused an engine problem if filled and changed correctly?

My g8gt was 8.9 quarts of full synthetic. I've owned a lot of new cars and trucks, I've always changed it the first time at 500 miles. Then at 5000 miles or less, I know the dealer says 7500, but that's just not for me. Dexos is the standard GM's new Vehicles. Our company makes their own to GM's specifications and that's what I use in my wifes Malibu Turbo.

Just had my first oil change done. The dealer/service center I use is great to me and to my Camaro. The advisor I deal with is pretty good, and I always request the same tech, even if it’s for just an oil change and tire rotation. I went to this dealer right after I purchased my Camaro to get my inspection sticker done, as well as have the front plate holder installed properly.

The tech that took care of that for me left the car spotless, and also did a perfect job. That rarely happens these days. I will now request him to do anything I need done at the dealer.

Today I went for my first complimentary oil change and tire rotation after a year of ownership and barely 2700 miles. I was happy to see that they use 5W30 Full Synthetic, rather than a blend. 👍🏻
