ADM 2013 ZL1 goes 173 in 1/2 mile
I raced my ADM built TT ZL1 yesterday at Shift Sector 1/2 mile airstrip attack in Coalinga Ca. My best trap speed of the day was 173 mph. It was a side by side roll racing event or a standing half mile drag race, I chose to do standing half mile all day. I started the day with my Weld Rts 17" rims in the rear with brand new M&H 325/45/17 drag radials mounted on them with 25 psi in the tires. 1st pass off the trailer I went 168 mph with serious wheel spin up to about 50 mph & I was pedaling the heck out of it trying to get it to hook. 2nd pass I let the air down to 20 psi & I went 171 mph with a little less wheelspin. I decided to switch my rear wheels to my Weld Rts 20" with a Mickey Thompson 305/35/20 drag radial set at 25 psi figuring it would roll faster with less sidewall & I was blowing the 17's off the car anyway so why not try it. I made 3 passes taking 2 friends & my Dad (they allow 1 passenger at a time as long as they have a helmet) for a pass before I made another solo run. All the passes with passengers the car went between 166 & 168, one of my friends cried like a little girl the whole pass. The car laid down back to back 173 mph passes to end the day, I almost got out of it on the 2nd of those passes because the back end was moving around a bit to half track. I love this car! It pulls like a damn freight train, even when its spinning its pulling hard & once it catches traction it pins you back in your seat. When we set the record for a ZL1 at The Texas Mile at 201.9 we did 168 at the half but were on the stock Good Years. Did I say I love the car, my wife drove it to her booster club meeting last week & posted a picture on Facebook just to be funny & see how long it would take for me to call her. I've said it before but Andy & the boys at ADM know how to build some seriously fast, reliable, drivable, long lasting cars!

That was an 800 awhp GTR that jumped way out on me as I was spinning, those cars leave hard from a dead stop, I chased him down & passed him right before the finish line. The driver came over to my pit area to check out my car, he was amazed I reeled him in like that.

Did I miss it but after you put the M/T's on how was the traction with them as opposed to the M&H tires? Nice runs by the way!

The runway was completely unprepped, I honestly couldn't tell any difference in traction between the 2 different size rims & tires. I did make my fastest passes on the 20's though. I'm planning on running the 17's with the M&H tires for drag racing at Camarofest, I really hope they work because I'm gonna try to break the ZL1 1/4 record there. I'm trying to avoid running slicks on it because I'd never run it on the street (I mean Mexico) that way.

Thanks! I'm sorry but I completely forgot to focus in & take close pics of it with the 17's on the rear, now the 20's are on it again. In the pic of it under the tent the 17's are on the rear.

I got the text messages last night and just couldn't believe it. 201 in the mile 173 in the half mile and next in Baytown we'll see some 9's in the 1/4 mile.
I don't know of ANY Camaro that can do this right now. Very nice!!!! |
