Lightbulb A 700 HP Camaro "ZL1" Movie Car Named "Turbo"

Featured on Camaro5 HOMEPAGE

Looked around for a few minutes and didn't see this posted. My apologies if I missed it.

Anyway... your daily WTF

Quote:
This? This is no ordinary Camaro, hombre. Not by a long shot. This is a supercharged L99-powered, 400-hp ZL1-badged widebody Camaro that will soon feature prominently in a DreamWorks 3D comedy called Turbo. What's so confusing?

Don't suspend your disbelief just yet.

First, the L99 is the standard engine for the Camaro SS with automatic transmission (the manual gets an LS3, which doesn't have cylinder deactivation). The ZL1 has the 6.2-liter LSA V8 producing 580 hp. Verdict? Despite the badges, this isn't a ZL1.

Also, the stock, non-supercharged L99 produces 400 hp, so is the supercharger a fake, or is it a special kind that only produces enough extra power to counter the parasitic draw it steals from the engine? We're totally confused.

And then, this "supercharged" Camaro is based on a character in a movie called Turbo, which hits theaters July 19, 2013. According to GM, Turbo is about "a snail obsessed with speed and this Camaro is instrumental in transforming him into a racer." Actually, that's adorable, and now I feel bad about being such a pedantic dick about it.

What else does the Turbo Camaro have? It's got that custom COPO hood, front splitter, rear diffuser and rear wing spoiler, custom LED lighting and it's been painted black with a vinyl chrome wrap, tinted to mimic black chrome. The tires are 24" x 10" inches in front and 24" x 15" in the rear, and the front suspension's custom adjustable coilovers and the rear's all custom adjustable rear springs and shocks.

And so, keep an eye out for a movie called Turbo starring a snail and a Camaro that takes liberties with what's real and what's not real. That's Hollywood for you.
