To LoJack or not to LoJack

I am waiting for my 2012 SS2 45th AE to be built and am wondering what everyone's opinion is on getting LoJack installed on it. I live in Huntington Beach, CA; just south of L.A. Would it be worth the investment?

I liked lowjack, but onstar is better...Lowjack is a one time large payment versus onstar's yearly smaller payments...The one thing I really liked about lowjack was being notified whenever my car was moved without the warning key, so I knew when the mechanic was working on my car and done.

actually shouldn't say onstar is better, since it doesnt notify you...just like that you can turn the engine off and lock the doors with onstar

lowjack you pay for once though......onstar is the gift that keeps on taking. I am not going to bother with putting lojack on my car. I had it on my truck and it didnt do me any favors. I actually question if it worked lol. Truck never got stolen though.

Lojak is a low power transmitter. Only works "line of sight" to a few specially equipped police cars. Police officer uses a "direction finder" which points to the origin of the transmitter. Signal reflects off buildings so the direction finder gets confused. Advantage to Lojak is the thief does not know it is installed. Onstar thief will just pull a fuse to shut it off.
Modern cars are dang near impossible to steal without a key. Makes more sense to install it on high theft ratio older Accords, Civics, Integra, Saturns and Sentras.

Thanks all! My dealer wants to charge $795. Is that reasonable? He's telling me it's good for the life of the car. The Lojack website states that $795 will buy you 4 years. Which is true?

Before you get LoJack, contact your local police departments and see if they are still utilizing the systems. I know that we, along with most departments in our area no longer have the systems in our patrol cars to track a stolen car. So if your local departments don't have the ability to track your LoJack equipped vehicle it would be a waste of money.

As long as no one jacks your car or you leave the key in the ignition, Lojak is unnecessary. Crooks steal older imports with shaved keys nowadays. If your car is stolen, that's what Onstar and insurance is for.
Lojack sells the gear to the dealer for $400 wholesale, dealer profits $395.
Consider Lojack profit based on fear.
Brooks is correct, few agencies have Lojack receivers in the cars.

I have been a police officer over 5 years and have inly seen lo jack work once or twice. Most agencies in bay area that i know of don't even have Lo jack system installed in patrol vehicles..
