If starting from scratch go ZL1. Just a better platform to build off of.

I ordered # 162 of the '12 ZL1's. When the first ZL1 came in and hit the dyno, it put down 460ish rwhp (auto). My Cam and header SS was putting down 470rwhp. After the Maggie, I'm right @ 600rwhp. After all my mods, I'm still $10k less invested in my fully loaded '10 than I would have been in the ZL1 before any mods.

Unless you can find a used ZL1 and get a killer deal on selling your SS, it isn't a good financial move to "trade up" to a ZL1. If you want a better looking car with more room to grow, that is a different story. But you are still blower limited on a ZL1, unless you are willing to pull it off and go a different route.

All that being said, I was going to make the move from my M6 SS to an A6 ZL1 to improve my times on the drag strip and would have had my dealership not tried to screw me with a "Market Adjustment".

Well, with all my mods + the purchase of my Camaro I'm right around the range it would have cost me to buy a ZL1, and I'm making MUCH more power than one.
