I always start out in first from a stop and will use second if I'm already rolling, as many others have stated. I also only rarely use second, as I will usually go from first to third (unless I decide to 'show off' a little.. )

i start in first, usually go to third. if you start in 2nd you've got to be on it to save the clutch. gonna get the skip shift eliminator, that message and the gear lock is rediculous i think its telling me "stop being a ***** and hit the gas"

I wouldn't do it regularly because of clutch wear but the big ole LS3 has so much torque it doesn't care much be it 1st, 2nd or 3rd from a start. I've done 2nd to try it and from 3rd by mistake (thought I was in 1st). Just had to fan the throttle a bit and ride out the clutch a smidge more than normal. I go 1st, 2nd, then 4th and 6th or 3rd then 5th all the time. So I guess I'm my own skip shift in the higher gears

Here is an interesting thought 0 - 110 mph using only 3rd gear! Hmmm?

I gotta agree with others here.

It sounds like you bought your car used, or somehow a skip shift eliminator was added at some point.

Skip shift eliminator doesn't do anything to the display in the DIC showing that skip shift is happening...it basically is a resistor near the tranny that prevents the tranny from actually gating the stick to prevent a shift to 2nd.

So basically, it does what you're saying yours does...which is allow you to shift to 2nd, but still see the display on the DIC.

With the problems they have with the manuals, your better off starting in 1st.
You should have joined Team L99, a lot less headaches.

Thanks for all the input folks - good advice. I tried the 1st to 3rd shifting tip in traffic and that accomplishes the same effect I was looking for - less gear-rowing/clutch wear. Cheers!
