Blackstone Oil Report - 2018 ZL1 - 1100 Miles - Factory Fill

Just for the other nerds out there, here's what my factory-fill 5w30 oil looked like after the first oil change which was at 1100 miles. I was just curious, as many of you may be, as to how much extra crap is in the oil due to break-in wear. The answer is (in this case, anyway), more than an engine that is not as new, but not a lot by any means. I didn't get on the car much during this time, and just kinda drove it around normally during this period.

I also just captured a sample of the Valvoline 5w30 synthetic at 3000 miles as well, and will post that test result when I get it.

Hey man here's mine. It just came in today. I did a 0w40 fill on my ZL1 1LE for track use. I filled at 1500 miles and did 3 track days. I got about 1000 miles on this fill. Our numbers look almost the same, except I'm surprised that I have titanium and you don't. Must be from my three track days. Since it's getting hotter input some Castrol 5w40 in the car. I'll do another test at the end of the summer.

This is good information and to me validates the HiPo supplement change schedule of 500 and 1500 for oil prior to the track for those who are OCD like myself. Basing my statement on the comments section of RBC's readout. Blackstone is a great lab and knows their stuff.

It is interesting to see the opposite spectrum as well, so thanks.

The HP supplement I've seen says you're supposed to use Mobil 1 15W-50 for track use per the HP Supplement to maintain your warranty. FYI.

ZL1 1LE Only

Change the engine oil to Mobil 1 15W-50. Change the engine oil after four hours of accumulative track usage. After track usage, the oil must be changed back to the engine oil listed in the “Engine Oil” section of the owner’s manual.

The report proves its important to change the oil early. 500 miles would be a number for the first change. I'm sure it will improve significantly by the next change.

I'm considering changing the oil at 100, 500, and 1500. What would be a good street oil for these?

Amsoil 5w50 for the street and track due to the GDI. I just changed my ZL1 to this and the car was immediately smoother as well.

I realize that, and I didn't want to bother with swapping the 15w50 out and 5w30 back in every time I went to the track. The manual also states that a 0w40 or 5w40 is acceptable for normal ZL1s for track use.

We have the same engine and I am not going to be driving my car like Senna or any other F1 Champion around my local tracks. the 0w40 or 5w40 should suit me fine. I used 0w40 on my C6 Z06 with Z07 package exclusively for almost 40k miles and dozens upon dozens of track days and it held up fine.

To each their own, but since my 1LE is both a street and track car I am not going to bother swapping in and out the 15w50 and 5w40.

I'll do more oil analysis to support this theory.

I'm impressed at the lack of gasoline in the oil in this report...a lot of fright surrounding the higher fuel pressures from GDI and gasoline degrading the oil more than a Port Injection engine.

Fully understand - just wasn't sure if you had seen the "official" guidance.

I have been running Amsoil and have nothing but good things to say about it.
