A TSB is not a recall. If you're out of your warranty period, this repair is on your dime. The only way you might get around it is via the one time customer satisfaction repair. Some dealers will do this while others will tell you to go pound sand.

I had this TSB done on my 2010 about 2 years after I got it. The leak was too small to drip on the ground. I found it because the coolant level was low, so I got the car up on ramps and found it.

No problem since the repair.

Have this issue on my car at 46K miles. The hose is loose going into the fitting, so not sure if its the hose to fitting connection or the fitting to block. Will report back.

I was able to remove the fitting by just turning the socket by hand. I am going to follow the 37ft/lbs torque spec per the TSB when installing the new parts tomorrow. That may seat it against the block boss. The original fitting installed had about 3 threads showing.

Summary: driver's side coolant puddle if car left overnight. Coolant smell when driven.

Ok so installed parts apparently successfully (no leaks after test drive). Notes:

- The original block to hose fitting only hand tight. About 3 threads showing.
- The new block to hose fitting screwed in most of the way by hand, nearly seating completely against the block boss. I tightened it with the socket to seat it firmly against the block boss, but did not use a torque wrench due to clearance. (37ft/lbs seemed a lot also).
- I recommend replacing all three parts: hose to block fitting, hose, and hose to cooler fitting. The reason is the fittings have the gasket embedded in them, which likely wears due to vibration friction with the hose. Also they come with fresh retaining clips.
- Use a pick to remove the existing retaining clips.
- Socket is 34mm for hose to block fitting.
- I used a bit of thread sealer on the block to hose fitting.
- Part nos: 22912546 block to hose fitting. 22840081 hose. I did not replace the hose to oil cooler fitting.
- The hose ends push into the new fittings with a snap (don't remove the retaining clips that come with the fittings).
- Make sure the 3 engagement points of the retaining clips are fully seated after the hose end snaps in.
- The hose has new black plastic cover caps. Slide these over the retaining clips until they snap. The caps seem to hold the hose more tightly.

Hopefully this will be useful. It seems a problem all LS3s will have at some stage.

wakespeak - Thank you very much for the writeup! I am going through this now, my LS3 has 49k miles. No apparent leak, only found it while changing oil. Small leak out of fitting - nothing on floor.

Question: You posted " I recommend replacing all three parts: hose to block fitting, hose, and hose to cooler fitting....."
"Part nos: 22912546 block to hose fitting. 22840081 hose. I did not replace the hose to oil cooler fitting"

Why did you decide not to replace oil cooler fitting? Do you need any sealant on the fitting, or just the gasket on the fittings?

Thanks again for the writeup

-Chris

Hi Chris,

I didn't discover that the fitting to hose gasket is part of the fittings until after I had ordered the parts. So if you want to replace both gaskets with the hose, then replace the fitting at each end.

I had to have my engine replaced. The fitting was cross threaded from the factory and the dealership couldn't get it to seal. I wasn't too happy as I just dumped a bunch of money for a cam swap and internal parts.
