Replacing the touchscreen

Recently my touchscreen started to act on its own. I am planning to replace it. The problem is there are a lot of different part numbers. I am not sure if I buy the same it won't have the same issue. The part number is 84015998 and the car is from 2016 and has the 8' display with spectrum lighting. If I buy a unit from a 2018 or 2017 and just take the screen, w/o the other parts, will that be possible?

I would take it to the dealer if you are still within your warranty!

Also there is a good chance it isnt the touch screen, it is the HMI module that is going out causing the issue. While you can buy the HMI module it isnt plug and play. It has to be flashed with the firmware and then married to the VIN for your car by the dealer.

The problem is I am not from the US and there isn’t a dealership of GM here. I now it might be the HMI, but replacing the touchscreen is easier.

Have you got a multimeter and checked to see if you have power/signal at the HMI and at the touch screen and check for cut/loose wires before you start throwing parts at it?

my did that too. the fix was to simply unplug the negative battery cable for 20 mins or so. It has not done it since and that was 2 years ago.

Haven't checked it with multimeter. But there must be power going go the screen, since it makes ghost touches and at some point it stops and works normal after sometime it start doing it again. I have noticed that when it's hot it is even worse.

Tried that and the thing with pulling the fuse, but didn't work for me.
