Street/Track SS 1LE 19” Setup- Update
Hey guys- thought you guys might have interest in some new changes I’ve recently made. After last season, I decided I wanted to have my primary street/track setup be a square setup. I ran square slick setup last year and loved the adjustability tire-wise.
I ended up pulling the trigger on a set of Apex EC7 19x10.5 ET22 wheels mounted with 305/30 19 Hankook RS4’s. I wanted RS4’s for their longevity, I’ve seen in endurance racing (AER/WRL) how good their pace is vs a RE71R/ BFG Rival and how much longer they last, so I knew I wanted to try them on the Camaro. I couldn’t be happier thus far, the rears poke similarly to the ZL1-1LE, and the fronts fit great. Only mods needed are a 5mm front spacer, and the strut clearance grinding. Here’s a link to the strut mod: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=526353 No rubbing issues, full steering lock... no problem. I’m at Mid Ohio with OVR PCA 6/8-10 then Watkins Glen over July 4/5 with Chin, should be a fun couple months! Last edited by Provoste; 07-21-2018 at 02:05 PM. |

Wow, looks perfect. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the forum.
I'll be buying a square set of track wheels soon, and if I had an SS I might copy what you've done. But with a V6 1LE, I'll probably stick to 18" 275s or 285s. |

It does look good and in the long run.. cheeper when it comes to replacing the rubber 2x a year. I had the RS3s on my gen5 1LE until they quit making avail for 20 inches wheels I held onto the RS3s until the end. Hated to gotten rid of them.
If you dont mind sharing a ball park cost for your setup? Also, any handling differences you may have noticed with car and possible changes in your shift points on the track. Thanks for posting and pics.. |

Love it! When you used the 5mm spacers is that due to the mrc struts?

I haven't driven the new setup on track yet, but I have gone for a couple spirited drives on some empty country roads... I can tell you that the new setup definitly has more rear grip, you can get on the gas so early and so hard... It'll take a little re-calibration. The wider rear track definitly seems to help stablity as well. Quote:
BTW, I've been gathering wheel/tire weight data to share as well. Here is one tid bit: The OE SS 1LE wheels w/ 295 RE71R weights are as follows: Front: 58.0 lbs Rear: 57.6 lbs 10.5 et 22 19" Apex EC7's with 305/30 RS4's: 55.6lbs So 8.8lbs less unsprung weight with bigger tires. Not bad! Yes, 5mm Thanks, Yes indeed. |

Thanks... yeah, I detailed cars through high school and undergrad, that detailing bug never went away. I use my car really hard, but keep it very clean. Don't worry, there's plenty of road rash on the front and sides from track use.
