Mylink to Infotainment 3?

Is it possible to update the software from the '18 front end to the newer 19 display?
Does anyone know if it's just software or has the hardware changed as well?

Cheers

Hardware and software are different and because of the interaction across the CAN Bus I seriously doubt you can upgrade.

i miss the days where you could just take out the factory system and replace it with any kind of system you wanted. Now that we have these non-standard / proprietary interfaces and form factors that aren't shared among enough vehicles to make it worthwhile, we're stuck with garbage interfaces from car manufacturers that have traditionally and still suck at every aspect of "infotainment".

less choice. Less freedom. Less upgradeability, less everything == cars today and it will only get worse going forward.

You can upgrade. Can bus is same. They combined the HMI and Radio unit into ONE unit is all. The LVDS cables are different. Other than that though it can be done.

I have worked it and have a 2019 unit here and screen because I like the 2019 unit in my truck.

Possible you would need to change the cluster as well.

Agreed. However, these days with Carplay/Android Auto compatibility you at least now have a far greater range of media inputs. With regards to the output, I've used an Audison Bit Ten processor in my last two cars with stunning effects. Not easy, but keeping a stock appearance with a 'future-proof' media input is possible.

A very interesting idea ... If it was really possible and there was a good way to do it. Is it even possible to get somewhere, somehow, to the original SW ??

Yeah but it's all processed through the crappy car system DSP made for only the stock system the car comes with.

Infotainment 3 has zero advantage against Mylink, it is only marketing. Mylink can be modified to full android wireless with wireless charging pad (2019 doesn't have it). Since wireless android auto and phone screen mirror works well, there is no reason to use Mylink or Infotainment 3 anymore.
