Not exactly the best 1st Spring drive

Not how I had hoped the 1st drive of the year would go.

But at least it looks good on the trailer I purchased this winter and hauled excellent.

Seemed a little off on the drive in today but figured it was a little cold and it had only been out once for a quick drive since the beginning of November.

Out to lunch and she stranded me. Started and would barely idle and die as soon as any throttle was applied. Thinking it might be a fueling issue, no codes and no fuel smell.

Will let her sit on the charger for a while and dive in tomorrow after work.

But still very happy with the trailer, something at least.

It does look like a nice car/trailer package! I sold Big Tex trailers for 15 years before I retired. It looks like a 70CH?

PS, crank that Jack all the way up, so it doesn’t catch on something.

60CH I think

I noticed that when I got home, I had used the jack to lift the front of the trailer to get a better approach angle loading it. Did not get back up all the way.

The Big Tex seems like a solid trailer and pulls much nicer than the Uhaul I rented a couple times last year to get to the track.

Ok, be careful with your weights. 60CH has a 6,000 lb, GVWR. The trailer probably weighs 1,800, so you have a 4,200 lb. load capacity. That car plus that overhead box, winch, spare, battery, should have you maxed out.

Vacuum leak? Rodents got to something while it was stored?

Looks like an 18' trailer given how the car is positioned relative to the trailer. I would say you are could be overweight if it's a 60 (as @LeonardS mentioned). You have a spare tire, equipment box, winch, flat plate covering the tongue... and a car that's easily at 4k or slightly above in weight. All sitting on a trailer with a rated cargo capacity of 4200 lbs.

The trailer is built with two 3500lb axles which means it can technically carry the weight you have on it, but the weight -rating- for the trailer won't hold up against how it's loaded. If you get put through a weigh station, stopped during towing and weighed, or are in an accident - you could be cited or worse. It's probably worth running over some scales (with any equipment on the trailer as well) and verifying to the best of your ability whether you're over/under weight for its rating so you can know.

I had a Big Tex 10ET-18' that towed "just fine" but it was noisy as heck empty. Do you take advantage of the removable fender for loading the car? It seems like the door wouldn't clear the wheel well for the trailer with the fender on but I don't know that it gets much better if the fender is off.

Yes certainly a little heavy, but I am only hauling the car maybe 20 miles when I do so to the local track or drag strip and no highway driving all country roads. It sees much more use hauling quads.

Quiet loaded or empty, I think all the extra weight on the nose helps when it is empty as it does not jump around as much as other car haulers I have used. Removeable fender is great, I walked the car up with door open using the wireless remote on the winch.

Best thing about it is I got it for $1800 and the only thing I did was install new brakes.

No rodents. I did originally think it might be an intercooler line but they all look good. Will find out tonight when I have more time to give it a good look over and hook the laptop up.

Good luck brother, sorry about the disappointment. Let me know if you need any troubleshooting help, I have the '18 service manual and can look stuff up for you (I know yours is a '16, but still).

Will do everyone on this forum has always been very helpful.

I drove it a couple weeks back to top off the tank and just get it out and it was perfect. On the way into work yesterday it felt a little off at idle and part throttle, but I did do a 50-130 run and it felt great.

Maybe something with the intank pump or something I cannot see with one of the intercooler pipes.

I would still think possible vacuum leak.
Maybe scan it and check fuel trims and see if there are pending codes.

That is the plan was hoping to do it last night but leaving the hazard lights on for 4 hours nuked the battery. So it has been slow charging all day.

Maybe a long shot, but I’d pull the battery and get it tested and likely replace, even if it tests ok. Low voltage does all kinds of funky stuff.
