Hmm, right off the top of my head, I can't say that the C8 has any more road noise than the ZL1. In fact, I think the C8 rides a little smoother than the ZL1 and may be slightly quieter. Being completely honest, the C8 is an amazing car to drive, if you can live with the fact that you're really limited to about 500hp since there's hardly any mods for them and the fact that the ECM is locked and may never be unlocked anytime soon, then I'd say go for the C8 if you can find one near MSRP. The backseats in the ZL1 are useless so you're not really gaining any extra passenger room. The ZL1 however has far more power potential so there's that. I'm fortunate that we have one of each even though my wife drives the C8 primarily and I drive the ZL1. If we didn't have a C8 in the family that I can drive when I want to, I would have a tough decision between the C8 and the ZL1. The C8 feels very quick even though the reality is that its going to be slower than a modified ZL1. I'm a bit of a power fanatic so the ZL1 give me more flexibility since I was able to modify it for more power. I do love the looks of the 6th gen ZL1 though but the C8 turns more heads and it's actually more comfortable to sit in than the ZL1.

Thanks for the insight. You own two of my favorite cars and are fortunate to live near a top-rated shop for mods. Glad to hear the C8 is close to the ZL1 in terms of road noise. I just ordered a '21 Z51 at MSRP. The ZL1 is still tempting since it can handle more power as you pointed out, but can't buy both. You're definitely right about the back seats. The 6th gen ZL1 has no rear leg room compared to the 5th gen...not that it had much either.
It's a bummer the C8 can't be modded without band-aids, so those with a desire for more are waiting for the Z06. Plus, I wouldn't want to stress the trans more with hp/torque. Sent you a PM. Last edited by DangerZL1; 12-03-2020 at 11:09 AM. |

Z06 will be worth waiting for - or if you want a true sports car, used GT3, as far as I know they still blow a new vette off the track and you don't have the middle aged guy with a paunch stigma

Got the ZL1 home, it runs strong but DAMN its LOUD! Using the AWE resonated touring exhaust, it sounds good, no resonance but its really loud with the Kooks headers and green cats. Under part throttle or cruising, it sounds almost like stock but as soon as you go full throttle, its like a top fuel dragster. I don't know how anyone drives these cars with no cats and a track exhaust.
The 2500F Jet Hot coating is amazing, even after getting the car up to full operating temp, I feel like I could touch a header tube without burning myself. Granted I didn't try it, but I can put my hand right above the tube and it just feels just warm, not hot like the stock manifolds. Not sure yet how much the BMR cradle lockout kit helps, but I can defiantly feel the rear is a little stiffer. I did a few 40+ rolls and the car just sticks and goes, I'll need more time to evaluate this mod but it seems to be WELL worth the money. Last edited by Z OH 6; 12-03-2020 at 09:31 PM. |

Z06 certainly sounds appealing right now, we'll have to wait and see what the final specs end up. I've never owned a Porsche but I told my wife today I'd like to own one in my lifetime so maybe in the future.

That would be nice, I absolutely murdered one of those on the highway in my modified Hellcat. It was downright embarrassing, he had it to the floor and I was jumping at him while I was next to him, then I would pull away and let him catch up and do it again.

What tire width did you go with up front? Just put some new wheels on mine and wish I would have gone with 295's up front

This is where I wish I had done something a little different. I used the OEM size wheel width, 20x10 front and 20x11 rear, but the fronts do have custom offset so that they sit further out instead of being tucked so far under the car like the OEM wheels. They are not completely flush though which I did by design. I don't want rocks thrown all down the side of the car so I was hesitant about pushing them too far out, I just couldn't stand how far the stock front wheels sit under the fenders. What I wish I had done differently is had a 20x10.5" for the front and a 20x11.5" for the rear that way if I wanted to do a 305 on the front and a 325 on the rear, those wheels would still work. As it is now with the stock sizes, I can still do a 295 front and 315 on the back, but any more than that is really pushing the limits of the stock wheel size. |

Exactly the same here but my offset kept them tucked and I was hesitant to go wider. Now that it's done, I feel like it's tucked too much and I wish I would have gone with the 295's. Won't be able to remedy this for a while.
Hope to see you out at C&O or some of the other meets one of these days! I'm in Dunwoody.
