Sixth-Gen Chevrolet Camaro Could Live On Until 2026
Just saw this over on the GMauthority web site.
https://gmauthority.com/blog/2020/12...on-until-2026/ The sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro could live on until the 2026 model year, according to a recent report out of Australia. The last we heard, General Motors was planning to pull the plug on the sixth-generation Chevy Camaro in 2023 following the end of production of the 2024 model year vehicle. However a new report from Whichcar.com.au indicates GM will extend the production end date to the 2026 model year. While this is the first we’ve heard of a supposed production extension for the sixth-generation Chevy Camaro, it appears to make sense. GM has already committed to the Australian Supercars series’ new Gen3 ruleset and will race a sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the championship from the 2022 season onward. It wouldn’t be very cost effective or practical to make a multi-year commitment to a racing series with a vehicle that will go out of production not even 24 months later, so there just may be some substance to these rumors. |

The source article indicated that the Camaros would be “remanufactured”. This could mean a couple things. It could mean that GM does a build out of Camaros when it ends active production in 2024 and sets aside a finite number of vehicles for GMSV to be converted to RHD over the next couple years. Or it could mean that GM could set up a process that allows GMSV to convert used (CPO?) vehicles to RHD.

I wonder what, if any, changes GM would make after the 2022, 2023 model years. They can't simply keep adding shock and steel and wild cherry etc. design packages forever...

I wonder how much the Cadillac CT-4 on the Alpha2 platform and the Camaro on the Alpha share? It's obviously not the same as the ATS, but they are built in the same factory. Maybe it helps the 6th gen Camaro make it to a seventh gen when it could be built along side a 2nd gen CT-4 on VSS-R.
