Your description sounds plausible and I will give it a try. But if it works this way it really means you must force the clutch against an engaged brake. This is not something I would ever do routinely and not something I would tout as a "feature"!!!
How much more detailed do you need? That's how mine works. You start driving and it disengages. Easy peasy

The "feature" is that you won't accidentally be driving around with the e-brake on - but yes, I turn off the e-brake myself instead of "just going"

Same here. Whether I start off in first gear or reverse, it disengages automatically.

Hold the brake then press up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, select, start... works for me every time!

Well I suppose I was expecting the car to realize when I depressed the clutch and put it in gear that it was time to release the e-brake. That I have to try to move the car while the e-brake is still engaged strikes me as a flawed implementation of "automatic disengagement."
And I am well aware of the simple button on the console, but there is nothing "automatic" about that, hence my question.

Want best solution to this is dont use it lol.. if you park down hill leave the car in first gear same as going up hill. Each time i pick up my car from dealership they dont use it, its left in gear. But if its not working let the dealership know about it.

I have an M6 and I have gotten very used to the ebrake. I'm in Florida in a non-hilly area. When I park the car, I pull into a spot or my driveway (forward or back in), keep my foot on the brake, put the car in neutral, and lift up on the ebrake. I then let my foot off the brake and shut off the engine. When I get back in my car, I have my foot on the clutch, start the car, put my foot on the brake, push down on the ebrake, then put it in gear. Sometimes I push down on the ebrake too soon before my foot is on the brake pedal and it beeps and warns me that I need to have my foot on the brake if I want to manually release the ebrake. Sometimes I just put it in gear and go. I feel a slight hesitation until the ebrake automatically disengages.

There are a couple of slight hills in town and I have tested the scenario of having the car in N or 1st with my foot on the clutch and brake and engaging the ebrake. I then remove my foot from the brake. When the light turns green I put it in 1st (if not already) and give it some gas while releasing the clutch. Again, a slight hesitation but then the ebrake disengages automatically. I like not having to sit at the light and balance the clutch/gas to hold steady, or jump from the brake to clutch/gas and slightly roll back. The only problem people have pointed out is that my brake lights are not on if my foot isn't on the brake, so someone could hit me from behind not realizing I'm stopped. I don't know if that would be my fault, but it is something to think about.

All-in-all, the ebrake is well designed. Since I haven't driven a manual in years, I don't have an issue reaching for the parking brake, or have a sense of the ebrake not seeming adequate vs pulling on a handle.

I just use it like a traditional parking brake. Foot on the brake pedal + pull up to activate, brake pedal + push down to deactivate.

Wish it had a mechanical handbrake instead.

I figured out my problem with the "automatic" operation... the controlling logic has to see at least a foot tap on the brake before it will release.
So, start car with parking brake on, clutch depressed, put it in gear, release clutch... NO GO!
Start car, clutch depressed, put it in gear, TAP BRAKE, release clutch and go.
Even though the parking brake is engaged you have to hit the brake pedal.

Actually after reading your post, I tried last night and this morning. It "grabs" just a bit, but didn't require me tapping on the brake pedal at all. The 1st time however, I had to push the clutch pedal twice before it released, this morning it released with enough pressure on the gas pedal alone. Keep trying where there are no cars around...1st on a flat surface and eventually on an incline.

Maybe this is programmed so there is like a "hill holder" release mode (no brake tap) and a "quick" release mode (brake tap required).

You guys complain too much lol. I too always used a manual hand brake, even in my automatic cars. it's always a good habit IMO.

It's taken me a while to get used to the electronic one but honestly I love it. It's more out of the way and the automatic release is great for long duration hill stops.
