I think that regardless of the power band or whatever other excuse people come up with, GM designed this car purposely. The compression ration of this engine along with the 1.7L blower allows it to get up to speed very quickly. Any moderate to pro driver would know how to keep the car in it's power effectively. And those of us with the A10, well that trans just automatically finds the right gear to keep it moving. The only lag I have noticed in this car is from a dead stop or a slow roll, like under 20 MPH. At any other speed this thing just immediately gets right into power and blasts off. Even with minimal throttle input. Even when it doesn't downshift the instant boost just propels it. I have many times wondered why they chose the 1.7 liter when they could have gone with a 1.9, 2.1 or larger. I mean heck KB was making 1.7L blowers for the New Edge 2V GTs back over a decade ago. But after driving this car and feeling how well it responds, it is clear that they were designing it to work as a complete whole instead of making it just a bland engine with a killer blower. A lot of thought and design went into this car.

IIRC They chose a 1.7L, bc that is what would fit under the hood of the Corvette in the Z06.

Also less rotating mass, so it'll spin up faster...I remember reading that, distinctly when the Z06 came out. I think they knew full-well the limits of the blower, but since the OE power output wasn't going to exceed those limits, they opted to go for it.

There's that many problems with the Voodoo?

That's what I was thinking. Most guys I've talked to over there love their GT350. Although, I don't usually go through the Issues/TSBs section on there.

I like to point out the good of BOTH vehicles while you like to degrade the GT350R. It's quite obvious who has a motive here and who doesn't.

The driving experience is one aspect, as is it's track prowess. You continue to belittle the GT350R for losing by a mere 0.39 seconds without acknowledging that it has better braking, better cornering, better "feel" and is short a shitload of power and torque.

I won't argue with you on this anymore....it's becoming quite cyclical. I get it, you hate the GT350R, you hate it's owners for paying admin, you hate the dealers for marking it up, you hate Ford for creating such a slow 1/4 mile terror.
thePill is that you?

Edelbrock fits a 2.3 under the hood of the Vette. I think GM could have done it too. But I think they chose to revise the 1.7 and increase it's efficiency and output for the purpose of having an engine that gets into power exceptionally quickly. Probably for cost savings too. I could be wrong but like I said, a 2300 would have fit.

True like I said I was going off of memory but it was a combo of things. They made it spin faster, more efficient, but also wanted to decrease the size to keep it as compact and light as possible. So while yes it was a more efficient unit, it was also chosen bc of its compact size and lightweight for the Corvette.

I also noticed while doing that....that Camaro Team was willing to sacrifice mpg in 6th gear to give the car a proper, useable ratio in the ZL1 1LE...while Ford decided to shoot for the EPA number in their track car, and created a useless 6th gear on track. Admittedly, few tracks will provide the opportunity to use that gear...but still....

Thanks, but there are multiple gearset options?
Yes, these are off of the Tremec website. I am thinking the 650 tq is the one we have for the ZL1 and the 576 tq for the GT350

If your motor is using 6qts of oil in 4k miles there is no way you wouldnt know it. there is more to that story.

Mine burned 3 quarts in 1640 miles. I did not know it. No smoke, no nothing. I was driving it very hard, almost like tracking when I would go out in the country backroads always keeping it in 6-8k rpm. So I did a bench test of only freeway, not flooring it, nice easy miles. I went 650 miles and it burned nothing.
