Has anyone removed the stock Lt1 RS rear Spoiler

So I've taken all the nuts off the spoiler but there is a white looking clip that I can figure out how to get it off. Its the last thing hold the spoiler on. At least it looks like it. I want to paint it black but have to get it off first. Or is the way GM used it to center the spoiler. I can really see much thru the opening.

It is attached with the hex nuts inside the trunk (the ones you have already removed), the plastic center clip, and 3M VHB double sided tape. I took mine off of my LT1 and I'm not going to lie; it was awful. Everyone said fishing line would work to cut the tape, but as soon as you get to a screw stud, you cant pull it any further. I VERY CAREFULLY used a long razor blade to cut the tape all the way around the spoiler, then pried the spoiler off with my hands and a plastic squeegee.

Now comes the fun part. Removing all the 3M, high bond tape. My thumbs were sore and raw for a few days afterward. It was not worth it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the post as I found out that is alignment push thru clip. Tried the floss, broke so no luck. I may have to wait till it warms up to get it off. May just leave it white since its such a pain in the ass because of the tape. My 16 SS with the stantion wing was a breeze, this mutha ain't wanting to come off. Might be easier for someone to wrap it in vinyl.

Sorry to hear about the hassle removing the spoiler (and am making a mental note to avoid this unless it becomes absolutely necessary). I had the RS spoiler on my 2016 wrapped with 3M satin black vinyl, and now I understand why the shop used multiple pieces of vinyl instead of removing the spoiler. The car was a daily driver that lived outdoors, and the wrap still looked fine, nearly four years later, when I sold the car.

I'm heading to the shop this morning that is going to paint it. They can remove it much easier then me. My garage is pretty cold in the midwest which make it harder. I can heat my shop to try and remove it but I'll let them handle it. Thanks for the responses.

I removed my stock RS LT1 rear spoiler 2 days ago. It is a careful process, but is doable.

There are nuts as mentioned that are under the black rubber caps. Those are of course easy. Just make sure you use a magnet near the nut when removing it on them (as dropping one inside the lid would make for alot of fun getting it back).

I went along the edges of the spoiler, while lifting up fairly hard, with a plastic trim removal tool wrapped in a cloth (so as not to scratch) and poked/cut the 3M molding tape away. This is fairly easy with this approach as long as your tool is fairly stout. I also found the floss didnt work well.

There is a large center white plastic clip that has a threaded stud from the spoiler anchored into it. This one can, carefully.....be pulled out. In my case, the white plastic portion remained in the trunk lid. The other two white plastic clips on either side of the center large white clip can be manipulated using a screwdriver to push the small tabs on either side of the clip in slightly when the spoiler has been partially lifted up to allow them to release.

In the end, it was not super easy to get it off, but after doing it once I saw that it was not terribly hard in the end, but tedious.

But yes, rubbing off the old 3M VHB tape is a blast :-)

I think because mine wasnt cold it wasnt as bad as most folks report. It took maybe 10 min to get it all off (but yeah my thumbs are still sore a few days later......).

I also used Goo Be Gone after getting the bulk of it off to get the remaining residue, and then cleaned that off with iso alcohol.
