NEW 2018 Camaro on lot for a year-inspection instructions

I can save $4,500 on a leftover 2018 2LT versus a comparably equipped 2019 3LT. Both cars have RS V6 Automatic Transmission, HUD etc, CarPlay and Navigation. It was manufactured around Memorial Day 2017.

I have talked to local dealers that would never<wink>lie, and they have said "the A8 Shudder shouldn't be an issue, and is easily correctable.

My 14 was bought after it sat on a lot a year with no major problems. With it I checked the Paint, the Tires (for flat spots) and the Battery for leakage, and of course drove it.

Am I missing anything to check for? Any or all suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

My '18 V-6 M6 sat on the lot for 18 months, not moved, which meant the battery was dead and it had 4 severely flat-spotted tires, all of which were replaced. After having read all the issues with the A8 here,I didn't even consider that transmission and there were some good deals to be had in December and early January when I bought my M6. my salesman was honst about the issue,I think because he had sold me a car 7 months earlier and this was an 1100 mile drive each way for me to make the trade. OTOH,the Finance Manager, who is a car guy, absolutely told me he had not heard of the issue-lying bastard! Run far,run fast unless you enjoy having that issue in the back of your mind every time you get in. Not me. But its your money,so whatever works for you.
If yours has the NPP exhaust, even better.

Just make sure they change the oil and make sure the tires aren't flat spotted. If the paint is good, I wouldn't worry about it being on the lot that long.

What's the MSRP on the '18.

I personally wouldn't buy a car with the A8, when we are this close to a new generation and perhaps moving completely to the A10.

This scares me, I read if produced after March 2017, not as many issues. Can anyone reassure me a little? Thanks

My 2018 1LT V6 has the shudder. Doesn't matter what year it is. Ironically, I found out something interesting regarding this issue. According to a certain GM power train engineer, the new fluid should cure the problem. There were other certain points made as well, but I'll just leave it here for now. Mine goes in next week

I would make them go a lot lower than 4,500 on a year old. They are dealing right now up to 20-30% off. I would start at asking for 30% off sticker and be prepared to walk away. Warranty starts the day you sign the papers so I would not let that stop you on the A8.

Dang, blue book a two yr. old like that one. Because that is what it will be as soon as you drive it off and have it a month or two. Your call. If going to keep for years ur ok. For sure tires, battery, oil and new trans fluid for A8 and prepare to walk if price and items not agreed too. If you walk, they will call in a few days.

I appreciate the replies. On a new one I can get $$10,500 off one that lists for a little over $45k. They’re saying they’ll go $6,000 off on a comparable 2019. Thus the $4,5000 diff I mentioned in my first post. They’re saying my 2014 with under 30,000 miles is worth $16,000. Per a suggestion here I looked the 2018 value the minute I drive it away. $27,560
First year toughest depreciation for sure. Tough decisions here.
Appreciate any and all thoughts.

Forget about the cost for a minute and just sit back and think about what you like/dislike about the 2018. Do you like the 2018 front end or do you prefer the 2019? What about the hood with the 2018's slightly softer lines? Do you like the rounder more defined taillights on the 2019? What about infotainment3 vs mylink? Are there any other differences in options/colors that matter to you?

Now decide which of those things are actuall important to you. Do you want to drive the car you want or do you want to save a few thousand dollars? Can that few thousand saved be instead used to make it the car you want?

I went through this exact process back in February. I decided on the 2018 because I decided I just Iiked the front end better. Got $12k off the $50k CAD MRSP.

If you want the 18 over the 19, work something in to the deal so that they will go ahead and change the fluid in the transmission to the newer fluid before you even take delivery.

I would go for this also, but doubt they will do it until you have a problem, that fluid isn't cheap.

Mine was on the lot for a long time also 14-18 months), but I didn't have any issues besides old oil. I figure it had been in the showroom for a while since it was a loaded bright color car. I would recommend using IronX or Meguiar's M1801 or something though, the paint is probably contaminated. Mine was

I appreciate everyone’s thoughts. Looks like there could potentially be issues with the paint, the oil, and the transmission.

The paint and oil seem easily fixable. I talked to the service advisor for my 14. Assuming she’s being reasonably truthful she told me that they’ve had trouble wit about 25% of the A8s. She said once they do the fluid change it is resolved for the most part. She said they have been promising a software update for this for ages. I’m not sure if 25% is reflective of our forum.

My gut is saying stay away but I do like the looks of the 18 over the 19. I like saving money also. So I guess I’ll do it and pray.
