Odd ticking/tapping noise

Hey guys, bought my 17' 1SS yesterday. It was used and has 19k miles on it. Naturally I have been playing in it a little here and there since while showing my friends or giving them rides. Last night after a short drive I parked and let it idle for several minutes while I was inside of it. I began to notice a loud single tick/tap that would occur every couple of minutes periodically. I then shut my car off before standing outside of it to make sure it was actually my car making the noise. It in fact was and it sounded like it was coming from in the right front side of the engine bay. As time went on the noises were further apart in time but just as loud. Best way I can describe the sound is like you were tapping 2 wrenches together. This is my first camaro and as mentioned before I just bought it. I don't think it is noises from the exhaust etc. While cooling. Maybe I'm over reacting. Idk. Any input would be much appreciated. Thank you guys.

Normal direct injection noises.... If it was a lifter or rod bearing it would stay in rhythm and increase with rpm.

Thanks man, guess it's normal then! Definitely puts my mind at ease. I was afraid I had messed something up or got ripped off at the dealership. Thanks again!!

I owned the 2010 1lt camaro from new until my recent upgrade, but I noticed the same tapping sound and learned the sound is from the high pressure fuel pumps needed for the direct injection which the v8 now use.
I noticed it would be more obvious when cold
I also noticed if coolant was low, somewhere in the engine I would get a loud tapping sound until I brought up the level of coolant, never seen any leakage, maybe evaporation at wot but IDK
Always check your fluids after ripping at wot, oil etc will dip from time to time

Good info, brother. Thank you! I appreciate all the help guys. I've never had a car I enjoy this much, just want to make sure it stays in the best condition possible! Shew I'm just glad it's not a lemon. A black cat ran in front of me today and I just knew I was in for some bad luck lmao.

I have the same thing after it's been warmed up, NEVER when cold. Erratic ticking/knocking like you said like two wrenches hitting together. Mine happens every 5-7 seconds or so after driving hard. Maybe every 20 seconds after just cruising. If I let it idle for a while it gets less and less and then goes away. I have 1 year left on the bumper to bumper but haven't had a chance to get to the dealer yet.

I'm thinking it may be an AFM lifter that doesn't like when the oil thins out after it warms up.

From the direct injection noises I've heard when the car is cold, and on my previous WRX, the HPFP makes a constant ticking and that is NOT erratic, and the ticking is much quieter. So I don't think mine is the HPFP

Normal fuel injector noise sounds like a very regular, fairly quiet, rhythmic ticking sound that goes with engine rpm. At low rpms, its spaced out and more noticeable:
tick--tick--tick--tick--tick--tick--tick--tick--tick

He said, a loud clank/tick sound that happens *periodically* every few minutes, localized in the RIGHT side of the engine bay, then becoming further apart in time.

I've never heard a sound like that coming from either my old ss or my current 2.0t. This doesn't sound normal at all, to me.

I'm off on Wednesday so I'll probably just take it by and let them check it out just to be safe. It's still under warranty anyway so it can't hurt. It is almost like a metallic ping/popping noise. Who knows what it could be, I just wonder why it still makes the same noise even after I have shut my car off. I never noticed the sound while driving only when parked and idling and after I shut the car off. Weird

You sure it isn't metallic creaking due to heat expansion/contraction? Like in the exhaust manifolds?

That's what I thought at first, but it doesn't sound like that light ticking/crackling noise. Would that noise be heard on the right side of the engine bay? It sounds about midway down in the motor on the right side.

Just hooked it to a code reader. No codes. I tried to make a video of the noise but it's too windy out to get clear audio. Maybe it's normal, who knows. I'll call the dealership tomorrow.

That sounds like normal thermal contraction noise from the exhaust.

Okay, even if it does it continuously every couple of minutes regardless of whether I just started it or parked it? It'continues even when the vehicle is off for some time.
