So car fax is useless yeah?

Took car in for shudder. Had him run service history. Connecting rod bearing replaced 1300 miles ago. Nothing but oil changes showed up on car fax. Unbelievably pissed right now.

How bad is this news? Does the lt1 have rod bearing issues?

Carfax is only as good as the information reported to it most isn't. I got a trial and punched in the VIN of my parents truck that was totaled and it was clean only showed inspections. I also entered a Maxima I had that got t-boned and the insurance company stupidy fixed it for a cool 23K when all was done, again no entries. Was not impressed. To answer your question main bearing problems don't seem like a common issue, next time have the service department print out the service records.

The only good news on this dealer trip is they verified that it has the shudder, which I was worried because it doesn't always do it. Still pissed and a little concerned about a rod bearing being replaced in my car though.

CarFax just scrapes data from other resources. It's a good place to get an extra level of certainty about what a car has been through, but it isn't by any means definitive. Obviously it's useless for out-of-pocket repairs.

My CarFax shows my vehicle as being in a collision because a piece of highway debris made a dent the size of a quarter. I maybe shouldn't have reported it.

When I was in high school my dad was in a wreck severe enough to bend the framerails. Still had a clean Carfax.

First I've heard of an LT1 with a rod bearing failure and I actually find it surprising given some of the power I've seen the SBE can hold. Whats the history of the car?

I purchased a Carfax for my SS before I bought it and it only showed normal maintenance and registration info. After I bought it, I called a friend of mine who works for a GM dealer to look up the service history, and sure enough, it had been in a couple of times for the shudder issue. Fortunately, they did the flush and also replaced the TC and I haven't experienced the shudder. So, yes, Carfax is worthless.

The rod bearing was replaced at 8700 miles, has just over 10k now. Never tuned. Only driven in the summer. Babied. So the dealer said. But I believe him.

Why? Service guy confirmed no tune. How do I know it was babied? The lifetime fuel economy was over 24mpg and the first thing I looked at. I don't know how the guy did it, I'm only managing 21mpg and I have to try. Why do I believe him about only driving in summer? The car was 2.5 years old and the guy only racked up 9400 miles.

I guess my point is, it's concerning to me. Its CPO'd, so I guess I don't have to worry for years, but the fact that it happened at 8700 miles is disconcerting

carfax is kinda like yelp. they make and delete things. Thats why people don't like buying a used car. you never really know what you are going to get until its too late. Oh and btw this sometimes happens when the car is "new" at the dealership also but it rarely happens.

Yours wouldn't be the first I've heard that spun a rod bearing or something along those lines. Just count your lucky stars that you didn't purchase an engine rebuild or a fixed lemon.

Not sure what the issue is here, what it has to do with Carfax, or why it would be assumed that the work would show up on a Carfax report.

If you hadn’t asked for the service history, you wouldn’t have known about the rod bearing being replaced, which is a reflection of a properly completed repair. Drive the car & enjoy it!

This. Regarding the rod bearing, definitely not common. But a prime example of why I follow factory break-in recommendations. It only takes one super small metal chip getting into the wrong place to cause a major problem. Like a scored bearing.

I was just pissed and had to vent lol. Got a little mad when I saw rod bearing replaced, and it didn't show up under car fax service history. I've calmed down now, the service guy was like why are you so mad? Don't worry about it at least you know it was fixed right. He was laughing at me. He also said it was the first one he's heard of in a camaro, and it was probably just a fluke.
