Here is the issue with that, that 4.2TT engine is the same weight as the LT4 (I know they say that its lighter but they say it is 529 pounds and the LT4 was stated as being around 529 pounds so what 5 pounds lighter). If you had to pick between two engines that weigh the same but one makes 550BHP and the other makes 650BHP then which engine makes more sense for the Z/28?.

It also uses a really small block so you won't see 6.2L from this engine and probably not even 5.0L from it so don't expect much else from this engine sans higher boost for more power.

And they(Al) made a very prominent point last gen that the Z/28 must be N/A so this particular engine would be a no go.

I doubt it. Caddy has mentioned they want proprietary engines in their cars. Not just any drop in that GM makes.

Once again GM falls short in power vs the competition. Will they ever set the bar rather than almost reaching it? If this is the engine for the mid engine Vette it isn't very impressive.

How is this engine falling short of competition? Can you name those competitors? Also, this is not the only engine going into C8.

This is supposed to be Caddy exclusive. The Germans have small TTV8s, which is why Caddy wanted one. the Vette will probably get something different.

I went back and read it again. You are correct, it IS on par with the imports in it's class. I must be getting old. It still won't work in the mid engine Vete which should be north of 800 hp.

So as stated, Cadillac is trying to distinguish/separate itself from the rest of the General Motors line-up. Their own designs, components, powertrains etc. This engine is destined for the CT6 V-sport (as for now). At max, rated at 550(+) hp and 627 lb/ft torque. The CT6 is closest in its dimensions to the Mercedes S-class. Wheel Base - CT6: 122.4", S-Class: 124.6". Overall Length - CT6: 204.1", S-Class: 206.5". The weights differ, Base CT6: 3,666 lbs, S-Class: listed as 4,630 lbs in both RWD and 4MATIC (AWD), The S63 is listed at 4,806 lbs. The S560 has a 4.0L Twin Turbo V8 rated at 463 Hp/ 516 lb/ft Torque. Cadillac wins there.... The S63 (equivalent to what a CT6-V would be) also has a 4.0L TT V8, but its turned up to 603 Hp/664 lb/ft Tq. Mercedes wins there, depending on what the actual weight if the CT6 V Sport is compared to the base model.

If you want to just compare engines with competitors by size and output:
Cadillac 4.2 TT -
500 Hp/Unknown Tq
550(+) Hp/627 Tq

Mercedes 4.0 TT -
AMG GT - 469 Hp/465 Tq
AMG GT S - 515 Hp/494 Tq
AMG GT C - 550 Hp/502 Tq
AMG GT R - 577 Hp/516 Tq
C63 - 469 Hp/479 Tq
C63 S - 503 Hp/516 Tq
E63 S - 603 Hp/627 Tq
S560 - 463 Hp/516 Tq
S63 - 603 Hp/664 Tq
SL63 - 577 Hp/664 Tq

BMW 4.4 TT -
550i - 456 Hp/480 Tq
650i - 445 Hp/480 Tq
750i - 445 Hp/479 Tq
M5 - 600 Hp/553 Tq
M6 - 560 Hp/500 Tq

Audi 4.0 TT -
S6 - 450 Hp/406 Tq
S7 - 450 Hp/406 Tq
A8 L - 450 Hp/406 Tq
RS7 - 607 Hp/553 Tq
S8 Plus - 605 Hp/517 Tq

I think the 4.2TT is the perfect standard motor in a mid engine corvette priced at around $70 k starting price.

Not enough power for making a statement. If you want a mid engine Vette why under power it?

500 horsepower is underpowered for an alleged 70k mid engine car? Get out of here, dude.

The Audi R8 is talking about going to TT V6 instead of V8 for the base. I think an small displacement, 500 + hp, TT V8 would be just fine to start with. Plus, look at the torque output, 627 lb/ft is really going to get you moving. A Mercedes E63S is ~4,500 lbs (w/ AWD) and that car hauls the mail for sure. Imagine in a current C7 at 3,500 lbs....
