6th gen Camaro brake size info - from Brembo site
Got this on Brembo's web site. More detail.
Chevrolet Camaro Italian brakes do it better The Chevrolet Camaro Coupe is 90 kg lighter than the previous models with better aerodynamics and brakes. The Brembo four-piston, two-piece aluminium calipers are designed specifically for weight savings and are among the stiffest available with virtually no distortion from high thermal and torque loads, even under the most demanding conditions. Brembo’s corrosion-resistant calipers in anodized aluminium offer reduced weight over traditional calipers. On the Camaro LT, the available Brembo brakes include 12.6-inch (321x30mm) front rotors with four-piston aluminium calipers. Camaro SS employs 13.6-inch (345x30 mm) front rotors with four-piston aluminium calipers and 13.3-inch (339x26 mm) rear rotors with four-piston calipers. |

Considering how heavy 4 corner 6 piston Brembo brakes were for Gen 5. Not shocking 4 piston ones save this much weight.

The above statement doesn't really outline what option the 5th gen had to get to their est. of weight savings.

Are 6 piston brakes an option on the SS, or 4 piston is as big as it gets? I remember reading somewhere that 6 piston were available. Maybe the car simply doesn't need 6 piston brakes with the reduced weight.

The 6 piston upgrade on the 5th gen was almost a $5k upgrade. But yes, they are available for the 2016 SS.

The 5th gen was a dealer installed option not a factory option so I suspect pricing to be much better.

So what's the replacement cost when they wear down on these Brembo's that come standard on the SS?

If you want to replace 4 piston calipers to 6 piston, that would be about 4k, but unless you track your car hard, you won't have to replace the calipers, so all you need to worry about is the pads. |
