Something stronger to hold rear window louvers in place
Hello all,
I installed American Authority rear louvers on my 6th gen last year with the tape supplied with the louvers. This has been annoying since the tape is not strong enough. I have also since tried a stronger 3M tape but still nothing. The problem lies where the louver tape sticks to the window tape. Is there another strength or brand I could use to get these locked in place once and for all? Is gorilla two sided tape bad for car windows? Do I use an adhesion promoter with existing installed tape? I have been told by other local friends that 3M brand is the only type that should be used. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 3M adhesion promoter doubles the bond strength of mounting tape. Put a few coats between on the louvers before taping them, and on the glass where the louvers will mount. Obviously let it dry between coats.

Gorilla tape. I replaced the 3M tape the very next day because it didn't stick on most of the tabs. I got the black tape, very strong. Clean the window very well then stick the tabs down, take the louver off, press firmly on all tabs. I waited a few mins before reinstalling. Only had an issue with one coming off and that was due to it was crooked enough that it overlapped the seal of the window so water got under it. Otherwise, working on 2 years with them.

Never had any issue with the 3M tape that is meant for holding car accessories.

You can't stick the old tape to the new tape. Peel all of it off and start fresh. Clean all areas where you want it to adhere with denatured alcohol, let it dry then put the new tape on. Same for the window.

What do we think about the 3m adhesion promoter with the double sided gorilla tape? This is a perfect thread- thank y’all!

You’re definitely doing something wrong if you can’t get 3M VHB tape to hold. That stuff sticks like grim death. It held vent shades on my F-150 for 18 years of Midwest weather, not even a hint of coming loose when I traded it in.
