Milage drop severe

Hello

Can someone tell me what would cause a 20% milage drop from my 3.6.
The car is pretty much factory with 56k on her. No error codes, no noticeable
engine differences. I normally get 17.0 local and 19 hwy, yesterday the display went blank and its apparently a factory defect in the cluster. I went in and cleared the trips and the speedometer came back on line. That's when it said average fuel 12.4 and my average speed was 25? It said this before I cleared it.
I think its time for a new car or some mods. Any ideas?

Give it time, your past average was on 56k, you may have done more city and rode her a bit harder than normal, check it after a month or 2 and see.

Waiting to see the first post of ….shoulda bought a v8

17 local and 19 highway?.. I’m averaging on the other side of 20 city / highway combined. That’s with a headered 8.

Have you calculated your actual mileage? I don’t ever really pay much attention to what the DIC says in mine. I bet you are worrying about nothing.

Fixing to do that, but I travel the same way everyday and I never gone through a half of tank in 3 days ever! I admit the cluster is inaccurate but the gas gauge is not

What is "pretty much factory"? Because mods can have an impact on mileage even mild mods. Scan the ECM and see what's going on inside your car's ECM. Try and use a good scan tool like HP Tuners where u can also data log and see exactly what your car is doing. Anything short of actual data logging is guess work and wishing on a star.

What year Camaro? Auto or manual? My 2LS (auto) mileage dropped from 26 to 24 mpg. Changed out a very dirty air filter and it's now back to 26 but mostly freeway driving.

Its a 2013 auto 6 speed. I just got back from the school and I am taking the airbox apart, somebody suggested it may be a filthy Filter.

The wheels and rims and rear suspension have been worked on before I bought it. No other mods at all

You hit it on the head I brought this up to the parts place and pulled the air box apt and found a few pounds of dirt in it. I paid the oil change dude $21 bucks for a fresh one 45 days ago It looks like he never changed it at all. They did the oil filter and oil but not it...The bottom of the air box has traces of dirt and the filter was plugged. Air hosed the box and put a new one. So much for J.L never again. Time for a custom air system, my first upgrade Any suggestions?

You could just buy a K&N reusable drop in filter in the stock air box, or an aftermarket CAI system such as K&N, Airaid, CAI or some other of your choice.

If I get more than 14mpg, I add more lead to my shoes!
