Technically, anything can be done without a tune. The question is do you want the mods that you paid money for to run efficiently? Or will a mod do something that can cause potential damage? Granted, I'm not 100% convinced that having someone tune your vehicle is the end all. I've seen some people put a vehicle on a dyno and point a large fan at it, tweak the A/F and call that a "tune". I say if you're going to throw bolt-ons onto it, go ahead and invest a little money in getting it tuned. I personally like the idea of buying my own device even though some people are "tune snobs" and don't like canned tuning devices. The benefit of having your own is that you can go to "test and tune" days and tweak your own car based on how it runs at the track. I say do you research and pick either a reputable shop or a device that you are comfortable using. Happy tuning.
