Hahhaha - just found out that one of my students on Friday will be driving a 2017 SS1LE as well.

Now we have double the chance to bust the noise limit. If neither of us gets black flagged then we know SS 1LE is quiet enough Finger crossed.

I just got my 1LE (still in break-in period), and Lime Rock on Friday will be my first track event in this car. I asked around but no one has been able to answer if 1LE will have problem at Lime Rock.

Lime Rock has an 84db noise limit - but they measure it at ˜50 ft. I see that people busted Laguna Seca's noise limit (>90db). But I think (not sure) Laguna Seca measures closer to the car.

I'm going to start the day prob with a self imposed 5,000RPM redline. I should finish break-in half way through the day. And will raise to 6,000 then 6,500. If I get busted it will be near the end of the day

And then you have a second chance, after you make "repairs". My "repair" will be to put the exhaust in tour mode (not even sure that does anything when you are WOT)

Lime Rock is a momentum track - if you have to short shift to avoid busting db limits it is not a prob. Will cost you ˜1 sec per lap.
Definitely share your results with the class.

I love Lime Rock, but haven't ever actually run there. I've only practiced with a college racing team in the B Paddock.

Kev... I'll keep an eye on the weather, maybe we will try and take a ride up and take in some of the runs if so? Truthfully, the real deciding factor will be based on the kids soccer schedule(s)

I can’t drive very far, since I have family duties. So unfortunately Limerock, and the NASA events are all too far for me.

I'm near the RI/MA border, so Palmer and Thompson are closest to me. And looking on Motorsportsreg.com looks like Autocross is held regularly in Devens Airfield, Ayer MA.

Do y’all use https://www.motorsportreg.com/ to look and register for events?

Where should I shop around for a helmet?

Thanks!
You might find that having such an online account set up for pre-registering ends up being helpful. I say that because I ended up missing out when I went to an autocross at the Canaan, NH track last year. Turned out they had more online pre-registrations than they had available spots, so I was S.O.L. When I had been active years ago in the road course and autocross hobby, you typically pre-registered for the road courses, but for autocrosses you just went to the event and signed up that morning.

If you want to actually try some SA-rated helmets on for fit, best place in Massachusetts that I know of is HMS Motorsport in Danvers. Phone that I have on their invoice is 978-774-1615. They had some SA helmets in stock, as well as SFI underwear, suits, gloves, shoes, etc when I was there in 2016.

I checked HMS Motorsport, it's very far from me (1hr+) unfortunately :(

Are there any places close to the RI/MA border? I'm right off 495.

In other news, I just registered for my first autocross! Going to Devens Airfiled, Ayer MA on May 20th. Anyone want to join? https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...country-049288 anything I need to know ahead of time?

I have also been checking HPDE, it's certainly more expensive than autocross ($50 vs $250+), so I'm holding off for now. Hopefully I can still do it this coming season. And Yes I understand in terms of drive time, HPDE is a much better value

Well just got back from Lime Rock. Neither I, nor my student (both Gen6 SS 1LEs, running Track exhaust mode) got black flagged.

I forgot to ask the track manager if they were running the sound meter and to get a reading on me (was busy - non stop coaching). But I'm fairly certain they were measuring the sound as they always do.

I was breaking in my car, so I was staying far south of redline most every place - but I was WOT multiple places.

So I think the 1LE passes the Lime Rock ridiculous muffled sound limit.

First 3 sessions were somewhat damp/wet very light rain with occasional clearing/sun, but the traction was excellent - track was clean as they just repainted the lines.

I ran 1.02 and change in the light rain first session out. For reference my best time ever on C7-Z51 was 59.79 (one-time wonder), and most of my C7 dry times were 1.00.xx or 1.01.xx.

Car performed fantastically - on OEM pads, tires, etc. Car has no bad traits at all on track - just fun. I took rotor and caliper temp readings and will post as soon as I have time.

And my car is now over 1,500 mi - so I can have even more fun at Watkins Glen in 10 days

Edit: Actually one "bad" trait in the car, if you are coaching someone who is fast and is pulling Gs on a a circuit like Lime Rock with nearly all turns to one side.. There is no place to rest your arms or to hold to something to stabilize your body. My neck is sore from doing ˜150 laps right seat and ˜100 driving. I need to hit the gym for some neck exercises.

Nice! Glad you enjoyed yourself (minus the neck haha). Where to they have the measuring setups? On Sam Posey Straight?

Glad it was an all around successful track day! Still trying to understand the "low" sound decibel restrictions in place on flippin' race track(s). Grrr Hope the neck is back to norm today

I run autocross events regularly at Devens in Ayer with multiple clubs from April through October. You should definitely come out and give a shot! Great venue for it. We have a lot of fun out there!
