Sounds to me that the Technician never looked at the Camaro documents on the lift points and possibly eyed it out and that was that...

Updates - She is fixed!

I got the car fixed.

I took one of the rocker panels into the dealership on Saturday and left it with them (I still have the other).

Received a call today with a lovely message "Since you did not give us the opportunity to repair the damage we are not going to pay." I believe that I mentioned earlier that their body shop said "no damage".

I am bewildered as to why they would risk the negative publicity over $1400 in damage. I will be pursuing reimbursement through small claims court and reporting my experiences publicly once this has reached it's conclusion. I'll also follow up on my initial complaint with Chevrolet.

Imagine it should come as no surprise that I'm upset with the situation. Currently out of pocket $500 (deductible)
Claim on my insurance
10 hours vacation time used
$53 small claims filing fee + whatever additional time off/fees if I have to appear in court.

The problem with this world is stupidity.
I'm not saying there should be penalties for stupidity,
but why don't we just take the warning labels off everything and let the problem solve itself.

Update:

Finally got my deductible back. USAA is great. They went after the dealership for damages. The dealership was refusing to pay. Refused all contact and almost went to arbitration with USAA over this. USAA sent legal action notices.

Now that the process is finalized I will be following up with public reviews.

Summary:
  1. Dealership messed up my rocker panels
  2. Dealership held my car for an extra week
  3. Dealership claimed "no damages"
  4. Went through Insurance and got it fixed at a third party body shop
  5. Took one damaged rocker panel to the dealership with repair bill - Tonkin family member/Dealership refused to pay.
  6. Insurance billed / then issued legal notices to Tonkin
  7. Deductible returned 5 months later

The dealership:

Ron Tonkin Chevrolet
122 NE 122nd Avenue Portland, OR 97230

Glad you have your baby back, and sorry you had to go through so much to get it fixed. USAA insurance has been very good to me too.

Loos like the Service Dept tried to scam more than one person

Quote:
I brought my Silverado here for an oil change. I suppose they did a good job on that. After the oil change I was told my rear brakes were down to 2 percent and that repairs would be over $500. I took it to a Les Schwab and was told all brakes were fine, that I had 50% all around and there was no charge for the inspection. So, I will leave it to you to decide if the service department here can be trusted. Needless to say, I would get nothing other than an oil change at this place.
