2SS Camaro is a bargain in Canada
You've read the title and probably think I'm crazy. But hear me out...
(All prices are MSRP with destination) 2SS in Canada: $49,250 2SS in the US: $42,295 A difference of: $6,995 16.5% more in Canada So how can I consider having to pay $7000 more for a 2SS in Canada a bargain (ignoring the fact that it would be far worse if we had to pay what our dollar is actually worth right now)? Relatively speaking, let's compare it to the price difference of a Mustang Premium GT with the 401A Equipment Group and Performance Package, which would be the trim and performance equivalent to the 2SS. Premium GT w/ 401A & PP in Canada: $50,849 Premium GT w/ 401A & PP in the US: $41,585 A difference of: $9,264! 22% more in Canada So, the Mustang costs less than the 2SS in the US, but more than the 2SS in Canada. It's not quite the same situation when comparing the 1SS to the base GT with PP... 1SS in Canada: $44,250 1SS in the US: $37,295 A difference of: $6,995 (same as 2SS) 19% more in Canada Base GT w/ PP in Canada: $43,349 Base GT w/ PP in US: $35,790 A difference of: $7,559 21% more in Canada The 1SS is still more expensive than the GT in Canada, but the difference is smaller at $900 in Canada vs $1500 in the US. Let's remove the optional packages from the Mustang Premium GT in Canada: $45,149 Premium GT in US: $37,295 A difference of: $7,854 21% more in Canada GT in Canada: $39,649 GT in US: $33,295 A difference of: $6,354 19% more in Canada It appears the optional packages disproportionately add to the cost of the Mustang. Looking at the Performance Package PP in Canada: $3,700 PP in the US: $2,495 A difference of: $1,205 48% more in Canada This is almost 50% more for the same package in Canada! But if you want to come close to the performance of the SS in the GT, the Performance Package is a must have. Let's look at a big dollar optional package on the SS, like the big brake kit: BBK in Canada: $3,820 BBK in the US: $3,175 A difference of: $645 This is 'only' a 20% increase for the same package. So, over all, it looks like GM is being kinder to us Canadians with not only a significantly lower price hike on the base price of the 2SS compared with a Premium GT, but also a significantly lower price hike on at least some options, which could be a big advantage to the lower trim levels on the Camaro. If you made it this far, thanks for reading! If you're wondering why I went through all of this, I like to make sure I get the best bang for the buck. Nigel |

It started out as some basic comparison shopping. If I'm going to spending $40K+ for a car, I want to be sure I'm getting the best value for my dollar. I've noticed a lot of people make assumptions in this regard but when you look at the numbers, it's often not what you expect. I've had a number of discussions with Americans about this (countering claims that the Camaro is 'overpriced') and consequenlty very familiar with US prices. I was really surprised when I discovered that the Mustang Premium GT is significantly more expensive than the 2SS in Canada but cheaper in the US. It kind of snowballed from there. :-)

I don't find it a bargain myself 47000 I added 4 options
2SS Magnetic ride control Npp exhaust Illuminated door sills Knee pads 53080 add hst A whopping $59,980.40 60 grand seems steep but the 2014 corvettes were 64000 for the cheapest I could find and this was pushing my limit for what I consider just a toy in the summers
