2SS + Non-NAV or NAV question

Not sure if I should add NAV to my order, will you help me decide?

Only thing I liked about NAV on my 5th gen was seeing Turning directions on HUD.

Will anyone w/ 2SS Use Apple/Android car play, open Apple maps & tell me if the turns show up on Heads up display.....

If it does, then I don't need built in NAV.

Thx in advance!

CarPlay does not display on the HUD or gauge cluster but does run the audio just like the built in one.

Thx for letting me know. That stinks! I know I just need to look at the big 8" display, but I will miss having them show up on HUD & front cluster.

Do you have the NAV package?

OnStar Turn by Turn does show up on the DIC. Not sure about the HUD as I cannot remember. I do have the navi, shows up on the HUD and DIC.

I don't know if I should go through the hassle of adding NAV to the order since it's already been put through the system.. $500 I rather spend on mods.

I felt no need to add the Nav to my order, my phone can do it on its own or through Android Auto when its available. I've never had a car with a HUD, as this will be my first one... so missing it doesn't apply . Look at it this way, if you've had it in the passed and will miss it, its best to get it than not get it and go "dammit, should've added it".

Mine has nav although I did not care for it. I did not order so didn't have much of a choice since the car was otherwise exactly what I wanted.

That being said I have never really used the onboard nav in any car I've owned. I just use my phone as I find it much easier and quicker. Plus I like to use waze which unfortunately is not available on car play so if I was ordering I would not of gotten the nav.

As long as CarPlay works as advertised the nav system is pointless...other than in some kind of extreme circumstance or you lose your phone.

The 8" display is plenty to tell us where to go and having it up on the HUD would be nice but not necessary. As OP has stated, better to take the money and use it for mods.

For me, I figured the extra 495 was worth it. At least it's not a thousand dollars or more like other car companies charge. I don't care for Apple maps and in case my phone breaks, loses signal, runs out of battery etc when I'm in a pinch, it's nice to know its there.

Yup...

Only reason I'm even contemplating it is because I had it on my 5th gen. Having turns on HUD is cool, But I rarely used it! Lol

Having CarPlay is the reason I chose not to pick it during ordering process.

Oh & just remembered, now that I own Apple Watch, it buzzes on wrist when it's time to make turns lol... So that seals it!

Thanks for everyone's replies..

Save $500 & buy an Apple Watch! I lost 27lbs so far..

Well in situations like mine...it does sort of matter, and I wouldn't call it an "extreme" circumstance.

I have whittled down my monthly expenses by $500 in the past month. Why did I do that? Because most of us "Americans" have tons of money we blow each month on things we rarely use or don't really think about. In my case, $500 worth. I have a family of 4 and sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the "suburban" lifestyle and just have things or do things because "everyone does". And considering that's pretty much my car payment...it's very significant to me. It wasn't that I couldn't afford a car before...but I didn't want to justify it before...now I have the extra cash to do so.

You're like what does this have to do with anything?? Well, one of the things I did to cut spending each month was get off a paid cell plan and get a $30/m prepaid plan. Unlimited text/talk, no data. I don't need data, I don't use it for anything other than the nav and Facebook. So for me, the nav would be very useful.

To be fair, with regards to the phone, I think there are ways to download your route on wi-fi before you leave and then just use that to get where you're going, but of course it doesn't have real time updates or anything like that. Since I don't know enough about the Camaro's nav system, I can't say whether the in-car system has that functionality, but I would guess it doesn't...so not a huge deal there. The in-car system would just provide the convenience of not having to remember to download your route on your home wi-fi each time you want to go somewhere.

I have nav and honestly I still use my phone out of habit. I forget this car has nav. If you did not have nav in your prior vehicle I would skip nav in this vehicle too.

I had NAV on my last 2, but even knowing the few perks... I still feel confident on just sticking with Apple CarPlay & Apple Watch combo as a 'just as good' setup.

I love reading other people's thoughts on this topic. Glad I created this thread.

I like having the Nav as a backup, plus I like the other XM features that come with the Nav. Plus I like how it integrates with the HUD and DIC, so for me its a want but wouldn't prevent be from buying one without it. If I had the option I would get it every time.
