Air Vent Rings

Need Help

Been asking this question but I cant get a clear answer.

I want to know if the temp control unit air vent rings are removable with or without taking the unit out?

Dealer told me the vent rings are part of the whole unit and it wont pop off.
Someone else told me you can just pop the rings off.

In sorry if this question as been asked before but I couldnt find a post about it.

Thanks

I remember seeing posts saying they just pop out when I was looking at painting them.

I pulled my out and plasti dipped them black. So to answer your question- just a steady pull and they come out.

How well does the plastidip hold up on the textured and commonly touched surface? I pulled some of the other silver / chrome trim and dipped black, but didn’t want to do much else unless the vent rings held up decently well.

Mine has held up great. I live in Hawaii and surprisingly do not use a/c much but when I do the temp is not changed much. I will post a picture in just a bit when I go to my car

Thank you for the info Haole

Thats what I want to do with my vents, I dont like the chrome. I dont know why Chevy doesnt offer a BlackOut interior package for the Camaro, but the RS Blazer comes with black and red vents.

Plastidip indeed works pretty well for the chrome, though, and it's fun to see the transformation.

Even the vent rings don't get that much "finger traffic", it's worth a try.

Does the trim around the instrument panel also just come off with a firm pull?

Yup, check out the tabs in my first picture. The left and right pieces are separate, start at top center or at the bottom (whichever is easier) and just firmly pull the trim towards you. Don't use excessive force, it's just a small piece of plastic.
