MICHLEN PILOT SPORT 4S

How much grip in the corners on the street will I loose with the Pilot sport 4s vs the stock GoodYears G2's ? I have been putting off buying new tires for a while ,but can not wait any longer . Never going to track the car. I know the pilots are better in the rain ,and should wear longer. What's up with the Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R , on paper they look like the best bang for the buck .

In my opinion the Pilots will be a better tire in every aspect. I have also never been a fan of Goodyears car tires, ever. I have many friends that run the Pilot Sport 4s and I have ridden with them (just ran Crown Rally from Chicago to Charlotte in a R8). They all swear by them and I can confirm that they are a fantastic tire.

I support this statement 100%. Just bought another set and the A/S for the wife.

I went from the OEM G2s to the MPSS and now I'm on the MP4S. Grip you won't notice a difference on the street with the two. Well I should say in turn grip..... Stop light grip, very much improved..... Especially in the cold or rain. Another thing to note is I noticed the G2s would never squeal when they are at the limit they just give way and now you have to actually drive the car.

My set of goodyears latest 7k then 8k. At 15k all 4 tires were basically shot and no way was I comfortable driving on those tires in any sort of rain condition. MPSS they lasted about 20k for the rear. 45ish for the front. MP4S I haven't been on long enough to know how they wear. They are SUPPOSED to last even longer than the MPSS.

Going from MPSS to MP4S the 4S has more grip off the line. At the limit the SS communicate way better in turn where the 4S feel a little numb. But again thats at the limit. Something you may get to a minute fraction of the time.

One thing that stopped me from trying out the RE-71Rs is that I saw a lot of people complaining about cording after a few events because of this car being so heavy and being super rough on the edge of the tire. Also I realize this now but I put a lot of focus on speed rating. The RE71 is W rated (168mph) and our cars have a 155mph governor but our cars come with ZR rated tires (186+). So that part was dumb of me.

I put the Michelin PS4S' on my Z/28 in November of '19. I love to hit corners aggressively. Absolutely no regrets. Keep in mind the 40 degree temp minimum per Michelin. I don't take the Z out below 50.

The 40* minimum thing must have a margin of error. My 1LE is my DD and occasionally when getting off of shift I'll get the Ice Warning. Literally has happened maybe 3 times since 2013 I am in FL after all. I just drive slow until the tire monitor says they've gone up about 2 lbs and then drive like a sane person the rest of the way home. Unlike normal weather where all bets are off. They have zero traction in grass though, almost got stuck the other day when I went to a friend's house.

For most the Michelin pilot sport 4 s is a good choice ,but it has a 300 rating so it will not be as soft or sticky as the tires in the 200 to 240 range . They will wear longer and be better in the rain. bottom line is , if you want the same grip on the road or track as the car was designed for by the GM engineers you want a real soft sticky tire . The Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R is a 200 UTQG and is in fact a better tire for dry traction on the street and track. There is no free lunch . You are not going to pull a 1.1 G with a 300 tire. Looks like the Firestone Firehawk indy 500 tires preform almost as well 8/10 as the Michelin pilot sport 4s on the street at nearly half the price . I have driven cars with both tires ,and until you really push the hell out of them ,they are pretty close . The Goodyear g2 the tire the 1 Le came with is 220 UTQG the Firestones are 340 UTQG and the Michelins are 300 UTQG and the Bridgestone Potenza RE-71r are 200 UTQG. Looks like the Potenza's are the softest and stickiest ,but wont last very long . Question is how much fun do you want to have and at what price ? I found a deal on the Potenza's for $250.00 a tire ,the Michelin Pilot sport 4s are $321.00a nd the Firestone's are $201.00 at the Tire rack wholesale ,not the retail tire rack .

So I did my first autocross in 4 years today. The MP4S has way more grip than the MPSS. About the same response but much more grip. I thought i was ripping my car but the tires were hardly even talking and hardly lost grip.

That being said the RE71s are still the best tire. All the fastest guys were running them.

My .02, the Conti Extremecontact Sport beats them both.
Bought a set last summer and was truly impressed with overall performance. Very sticky tires...+ 340 rating.

I second the Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires. I put a set on my 2010 Camaro in 275/305 and like them so much I am ordering a set for my 2017 ZO6.

Love my 4s tires! Waaaay better than the g2's on the street.
The glass transition temperature on these is like 14F. I drive them all year long in the northern suburbs of Atlanta. Even in the high 20's and low 30's, they have been fine.
