Yes normal. And a side benefit of going to camber plates is ensuring your suspension works the way it should and no random changes to alignments specs due to a soft and wandering upper strut mount. That and if you track a lot you'll get improved tire life plus better handling that can be switched quickly between street and track settings.

And to answer your question on the signatures, yes sir, Al Oppenheiser and Scott Settlemire on the left and Jim Kalahar and Adam Barry on the right strut tower.

The top of the Camaro front struts are floating design. That metal washer hat that is seen from inside the engine bay at the top of the strut tower is a simple retainer that keeps the strut from falling down when the car is jacked up. There is a rubber ring that runs around the perimeter of the retainer plate that scuffs the top surface of the strut tower and marks it up but that is completely normal. The gap under the retainer washer/hat widens over time, that is normal also. The strut tower shape and strength was increased after a couple years in Gen 5; and Chevy also later fully threaded the strut tower brace holes even if the car did not get a strut tower brace put on at factory.

Gap may be normal but should the rubber be loose and come off with the littlest effort?

i found a company in Australia called (k-mac-camber-kits.com ) that makes the top strut mount camber/caster set up , even if you do not race your Camaro it a good investment . the bearing set up fixes the top mount problems IMO

Glad I found this thread. I noticed this last weekend. Top picture is with the steering wheels turned ≈360° to the left. The Bottom picture is with the wheels pointed straight ahead.
