ZL1 1LE to ZL1

Well, I had to make a tough call today as my dealer informed me that I can continue to wait after a year and hope for a 1LE or I can take a ZL1 that is configured with everything I wanted except the 1LE package and have a production date of Jan 23, 2023. He said 1LEs may not ever be available considering the current restraints. Not sure how true that is but after a year that’s looking closer to reality than not. Really wanted the 1LE but I am tired of waiting and went with the sure thing. A bit disappointed but loved my 2013 ZL1 so this will certainly be a bit of an upgrade, nevertheless.

There are plenty of used 1LEs for sale all over the country, most with less than a few hundred miles on them. Is a practically brand new 1LE out of the question?

Unless you are tracking it every weekend, you arent missing anything. The 1LE is not a friendly road car. The ZL1 in track mode will rattle your teeth. The 1LE takes it a step above that, and there is no changing it to a softer setting.

I lived with one for a few years, thinking it was an upgrade to the normal ZL1 or it was a higher model. Man was I wrong. For fun driving, the normal ZL1 in track is more than a handful on the streets. If you need the 1LE for competition, then by all means. It would be better on the track, but only for those with the skill to max out a normal ZL1.

Thanks for the feedback. No I don't plan to track it, its more of a look issue for me. As strange as it may sound, I really like some of the cosmetic options the 1LE comes with that are not available in the STD ZL1. I hate that GM doesn't give you the options flexibility you get with the Vet. This is primarily a weekend fun car for me, not a daily driver.

I agree. You can option out the wing from GM if you want but that’s it. The front end stuff and the wheels you would have to buy after the fact. But the wing was a factory option for the normal ZL1.

The high wing option forces you to the ZL1 1LE now. I believe it use to be an option but it isn't any longer in the configuration tool without 1LE

People love big wings! It looks good on a GT3 I guess, mixed feelings on a Camaro

Keep in mind they just slow you down in a roll on contest, so that M5 d*ck will think he pulled clean

Well you can buy the dive planes and spoiler then add them to the ZL1 and also get a black wrap on the hood.

They use to allow you to add the spoiler for the non 1LE ZL1 but, as every manufacturer says now, "due to constraints"..... but then it was like $5k or something crazy like that.

It would be hard for me to make a purchase like this and have instant regrets. I’d buy a very low mile used one and add an extended warranty through GM. If you like the look and the stance get the one you waited a year for. The first time you look at it in the garage and think why didn’t I get what I wanted. I don’t track my cars either but I have a ZLE and a Z06.

You can aftermarket the 1LE parts at your leisure.

Congrats on your incoming beast!!!

You won't be unhappy with a non-1LE car. In fact, long term happiness I think you'll be happier as the rough suspension will get old if not used to its design.

As mentioned above, all 1LE exterior parts are available in one form or another. Everything but the wing is available from GM, and there are some great aftermarket wing replicas too like Anderson Composite.

I would buy the ZL1, use the saved money to mod to my taste, and never look back.

I left a 2019 Z06 for a ‘used’ 2021 ZLE with 6K miles. I too chased allocation and inbound units but dealers are just stupid asking $10K over MSRP. God bless ‘em if they can get it….not from me though. I paid $71K for a CPO and as far as I’m concerned, that’s as good as new to me.

The debate of 1LE v. ZL1 has been covered here in excruciating detail. I could find the link. It all boils down to your preferences. If you just must have a true track car, buy the 1LE and accept that it rides and drives like a track car. If you want more of a streetcar or daily driver kind of car, buy the ZL1.
