Automatic shift knob replacement

I've searched ol' YouTube without luck. Anyway, my carbon fiber shift knob arrived at the dealership. The car was shipped with it missing. Is this a simple diy? Or just tell them to store it and have them r&r it in the spring.

Unlike its manual counterpart that is just a new cap, the CF auto shift knob GM sells is the entire shift knob assembly, but judging from the install procedure, that one isn't complicated to replace either.

Do not use a steel trim tool, a plastic tool is the way to go. As far as pulling up on the knob to remove, for goodness sake, don’t try that. Firstly, it’s not the correct way to remove and secondly, if you’re not big dude like him, you’ll likely hurt yourself, or just get frustrated yanking on it.

Once the boot is released from the knob, use a small taped off screwdriver and pry down between the aluminum trim and the knob itself. This should be done at the front of the knob, as shown in picture. (There’s two dimples that the trim ring snaps into, again seen in picture) Once released, use the small screwdriver to release the small semicircle ring. You can then gently remove the knob. I dissembled the entire knob to install and reinstall the cover. While that may not be necessary, it’s easier and cleaner than jamming a screwdriver between the mechanism.

Thanks for the replies. I'll have to stop by the dealer and see exactly what GM shipped. Not sure if it's a full assembly like in the videos that I never found ;( or just the piece that replaces the Alcantara. Then I'll decide.

Again, thanks.
