Passing inspection with catted headers?

Hey guys,

I'm looking into a FBO e85 setup and would like your input/thoughts on tuners. I'm in the Houston area.

Also, I'm a little worried about being able to have the car inspected once I install (catted) headers from Texas Speed. Anyone know if once tuned, the o2 sensors read correctly and can still pass a state inspection? new to the muscle car game, excuse my ignorance.

any input would be appreciated. thanks!

My 2011 had catted headers along with a big cam and still passed inspection in Harris county - as long as the tune is done properly and the car doesn’t have any issues you’ll be fine. The inspection just counts the fails or systems not ready on the ecu - you get 2 and the cats being turned off on the tune count as 1

So long as it plugs in and can pass, you'll pass. My C6 with Long tubes, cam and catted X passed no issue. No cats they knew some thing was up but it still had the rear O2s present and passed on the plug in. I remember the last guy I took it to before I sold the car to wasn't happy about it but he couldn't fail it but he knew some thing was up.

In Bell County Texas no electronics go into the tailpipe, or get connected to the OBDII port. It's all a visual inspection. My '06 GTO has gutted Cats, so it looks fine from the outside, but they are hollow inside. I run E85, meaning the exhaust might smell different. It passed without issue.

Get it tuned at the same time so you don't set codes for the rear o2 sensors. They will trigger codes since the new cats aren't as restrictive. It's a bitch to get those codes to clear so you can then tune them out. You can't just erase codes like you used to be able to. I found this out the hard way. Just get the rear o2s tuned out at the same time as the headers go in and you will be fine

I had the same question ;-). About to start the same mods.

Anyone with experience in Travis county? (Not sure if or how the inspection criteria differs for the two counties).

TIA
